Season’s Greetings featuring Gelli print

seasons_greeting_gelli

  • Dies –
    • Spellbinders Nestabilities – Resplendent Rectangles
    • Elizabeth Craft Designs – Season’s Greetings
    • Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations – Holiday Greens
  • Patterned paper – KaiserCraft – Christmas Carol 6-1/2″ paper pad
  • Metallic paper (red) – Paper Accents
  • Gelli Plate print

It was kind of difficult to capture this ornament accurately with all of the reflection on the red metallic die-cut. This die-cut really shines and sparkles! The background is a gelli plate print I made previously, mainly with red paint and stencils. I accented the frame with holly from the Sizzix die set. The Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge is Make it Sparkle, but I hope a little shine will also fit the bill! Thanks for visiting and Happy Holidays!

Magical Ornaments

  • Dies
    • Tonic – Acorn Swirl
    • Little B – Labels
  • Vintage Photos

  • Tim Holtz idea-ology
    • Alpha cards
    • Mirrored stars
    • Tinsel Twine – Autumn

I created three ornaments for three magician friends who have been mentors for Trenton since January 2009 (nearly 8 years), since he was 10 years old. He was the charter member of Salem’s Society of Young Magicians and performing magic effects has been a large part of young life. Now that he is 18, as the bylaws of the Society of Young Magicians state, he must move up to the Society of American Magicians (the adult group). So this weekend, Trenton attended his last meeting and performed in his last show with the group. As a thank you, our family gave Glen, Tom and John (the mentors) each a gift basket and each included a personalized ornament shown above.

magic-detailornamentI took a vintage image of a magician and collaged it with some die-cuts and other ephemera. I applied collage medium that gave the image an antiqued quality, including a crazing (crackle) effect. Then I added some walnut stain Distress Ink to the edges of the image and to the crazed texture to show it off a bit more. I created a different composition for each ornament that included an Alpha card (playing off the tricks they all do with cards) that is an initial of either their first or last name, and other embellishments for visual interest. It was a fun project to do and hopefully provided them with a small memento that will make them think of Trenton when they decorate their trees.

I am including this in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge “Christmas Gifts.”

Mosaic Butterflies

  • Stamps –
    • Indigo Blu Limor Webber Designs – “Limor Circles”
    • Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection – “Papillon”
  • Strathmore Bristol paper
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks
  • White embossing powder
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Tissue Tape
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Crayons
  • Derwent Inktense pencil
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Collage Medium: Crazing
  • Cardstock

I was inspired to make this from a project in the October 2016 issue of Craft Stamper magazine, and adapted the technique to fit the supplies I had. First I created a mosaic background first, by cutting up different sized “tiles” from bristol paper, fitting them together and adhering them onto a piece of heavy cardstock. I then applied Distress Inks to the background with a foam applicator before stamping the butterfly image. I spattered some water to give it some additional visual interest. I then stamped and heat embossed the circles, using white embossing powder for some nice contrast. I added the tissue tape and accents with the Inktense pencil and Distress Crayon. Finally, I added a thick coating of Crazing collage medium around the edges to give it a nice crackle, let it dry and attached it to a folded navy card. I will enter this in the Anything Goes November Challenge at Craft Stamper, taking the theme and making it my own! Thanks for stopping by.

Scarecrow – Trick or Treat

scarecrow_trickortreat

  • Stamps:
    • Carabelle Studios – “Imagine a Scarecrow”
    • Stampers Anonymous – Art of Brett Weldele “Trick or Treaters”
  • Stencils:
    • Stampers Anonymous – Tim Holtz “Twisted”
    • Ranger – Dina Wakley Media “Spaced Dots”
  • Ranger Distress Inks: Walnut Stain and Carved Pumpkin
  • Kraft and orange cardstock

In honor of World Cardmaking Day on October 1st, I hosted a make and take at Runaway Art and Craft Studio. We played with this stamp set from the French company, Carabelle Studios and I made several cards with it. I stamped the scarecrow on orange cardstock and fussy cut him. The background is stenciled with Distress Inks and the sentiment is from the Stampers Anonymous set. Thanks for visiting.

It’s Pumpkin Time

  • Stamps – The Cat’s Pajamas, “Hello Pumpkin”
  • Dies –
    • The Cat’s Pajamas, “Leaves”
    • Sizzix – Tim Holtz Alterations – “Mixed Media” (used for dry embossing)
  • Embossing powder – Detail Black
  • Cardstock – Paper Accents

I created this card for the TCP Challenge #322 – Embossing. This stamp set is one of my absolute favorites! It combines penguins and pumpkins–what could be better? I embossed the image with black embossing powder and then colored it with Zig Clean Color markers. I fussy-cut the image and arranged the die-cut leaves around it. I used the Sizzix die to emboss the pattern on a green panel for a backdrop. I photographed my card on our only normal shaped pumpkin that seems to be maturing in our garden this year, just to set the mood! Thanks for visiting.

Hero Arts Orchids Scramble

ha-scramble-138

  • Stamps – Hero Arts – CL947 “Color Layering Large Orchid”
  • Ranger – Distress Crayons
  • Ranger – Distress Inks
  • Distress Watercolor cardstock
  • Bazzill cardstock – Bouquet
  • Neenah Solar White cardstock

I created this card for a 90-minute scramble #138 on the Hero Arts Flickr site. Our challenge was to use solid stamps and outline stamps together. I used Distress Crayons directly on the outline stamp and spritzed it with water. I did a similar watercolor technique for the solid stamps and stems, only using Distress Inks. I added some water splatters and the sentiment to finish off the image. I then adhered it with a strip of purple cardstock and popped the whole thing up with dimensional adhesive. Thanks for stopping by.

Journal pages with bird tags

journal-birdtags

Just a quick post to show a two-page spread from my journal. I created this during my Dina Wakley class marathon last weekend when she came to Salem. It is not obvious from the photo, but the tags are in little pockets and can be pulled out. I used Dina’s acrylic paint, stencils, stamps and Ranger’s Tim Holtz tissue. Lots of fun!

Iris Fold with Gears

irisfoldw-gears

  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Square Sayings”
  • Die – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Twenty Two”
  • Origami paper – Yasutomo Metallic Colors
  • Gears – Tim Holtz Ideaology “Mini Gears”
  • Patterned paper – KI Memories/Hampton Art “Metro Garden” 6X6″ paper pad
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I wanted to create another iris fold card. For this one I cut a “window” from one of my dies. I used a square Iris Fold pattern from Judy Headrick at Cards and Crafts to fill in the frame with multiple metallic colors. I made this card for an older gentleman and added the gears for a masculine touch. Thanks for visiting today.

Crazy Bird Birthday

  • Stamps –
    • Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz “Bird Crazy”
    • Simon Says Stamp – “Happy and Smile” set
  • Dies –
    • Sizzix – Tim Holtz Framelits “Bird Crazy”
    • Lawn Fawn Lawn Cuts “Stitched Circle Frames”
  • Corner punch – Fiskars “Spiral”
  • Patterned paper – Lawn Fawn “Beachside: Deep Sea”
  • Gelatos
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I think this is a pretty wild bird, so it fits perfectly for The Paper Players Wild Thing Challenge. The background was made with Gelatos and water. Some of the Gelatos were metallic, so there is a subtle sheen. I colored the bird with Zig Clean Color markers and a water-brush. I popped him up inside the circle frame and that dimension almost makes him look like he’s swinging on it. Thanks for visiting today.

Mixed Media Butterfly Birthday Card

butterflies-spraybg

  • Dies – Sizzix Thinlets – Tim Holtz “Detailed Butterflies”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Square Sayings”
  • Patterned paper – Basic Grey Lemonade Collection: “Pretty Petals”
  • Ranger – Dina Wakley Clear Gesso
  • Ranger – Tim Holtz Distress Crayons
  • Ranger Texture Paste
  • Stencil – The Crafter’s Workshop “Tiny Circles” 6 X 6″ stencil
  • Sequins – Simon Says Stamp – Assorted Moonshine
  • Inks Sprays – Dylusions White Linen, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist assorted colors
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This was such a fun project! I made it over a period of time, since I created the background while playing with patterned papers, texture paste and stencils, and ink sprays with some friends. I made a lot of different backgrounds with many layers of ink and texture. Then I got my hands on the Distress Crayons and butterfly dies and put together some different butterflies to use on something someday, coloring the butterfly base with the crayons and cutting the details from a contrasting cardstock. I stared at my backgrounds and the butterflies and finally put the pieces together in this birthday card!  The final card fits perfectly for the current challenge at Simon Says Stamp for the Monday Challenge Blog Butterfly Beauty Challenge.
