Goodbye, February! Be Mine.

  • Paper beverage napkin – Lady Jayne “Celebrate Floral Heart”
  • Stencils –
    • Stampers Anonymous – Tim Holtz Collection “Flames”
    • Ranger Ink – Dina Wakley Media “Viney”
  • Prima-Finnabair Art Basics 3-D Gloss Gel
  • Stamps – Ranger Ink – Dina Wakley Media “Scribbly Flowers”
  • Deli paper
  • Dina Wakley Media acrylic paint – magenta, lemon, lime and white
  • Tim Holtz Idea-ology tissue tape – “Laboratorie”
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs
  • OHTO Fude Ballpoint Pen – black
  • Krylon gold metallic pen
  • Black Cardstock – Bazzill

I created this mixed media card beginning with a beverage napkin that I adhered to a piece of Bristol paper with gel medium. I stamped and lightly painted some deli paper and added tissue tape to the piece. Then I applied the 3-D gloss gel through a couple of different stencils and allowed that to dry into a nice textured coating.

I have included a detailed photo so you can see the texture of the stenciled 3-D gel medium. It is pretty cool!

I loosely outlined the heart with the Fude Ball pen and then ran my metallic gold pen around the entire card, topping it off with a piece of ribbon and some sequins. I mounted the piece onto a black card base.  It is amazing what you can do with a paper napkin! Thanks for visiting.

Frost on the pumpkin

  • Paper mache’ pumpkin – Fab Lab
  • Dina Wakley Media white gesso
  • Dina Wakley Media acrylic paints – Cheddar, Ruby, Umber, Tangerine, and Evergreen
  • Prima Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint – Sparks Ginger Magic
  • Prima Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint – Opal Magic Violet Green
  • Finnabair Art Extravagance Texture Paste – White Sand
  • Prima Art Alchemy Metallique Wax – Rich Copper
  • Finnabair Art Basics 3D Matte Gel
  • Finnabair Art Ingredients Glass Glitter – Pearl

I bought this paper mache’ pumpkin for 70% off a couple of weeks ago and had no specific plan. I just thought it would be fun to paint it and use some of the many mediums I have collected! I also saw John Creighton Petersen’s magical pumpkin last week and was inspired.

So I started applying layers of paint and texture, beginning with gesso and then with a variety of Dina Wakley Media acrylic paints. Then I started adding some sparkle and shine with some Prima paints, followed by some White Sand Finnabair texture paste. That stuff really gave it the effect I was looking for. I added some more paint here and there and then applied the Prima Rich Copper Metallique Wax to add some shadows and color variation. Finally, I added 3D Matte Gel to the top of the pumpkin and partway down in spots and patted on (carefully!) the pearl glass glitter. It made it look like there is frost on my pumpkin! Great fun!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Halloween!

A bit of fragrance

  • Stamps – Ranger – Dina Wakley Media “Scribbly Flowers” (flower and sentiment)
  • Paint – Dina Wakley Media acrylic paints
  • Dina Wakley Media scribble sticks
  • Dina Wakley Media Tape
  • Washi tape
  • Hampton Art KI Memories Yellow gems
  • Handmade paper – Teal
  • Cardstock – Black – Bazzill

I created this brightly colored,  mixed media card by brushing on acrylic paints in the background, and accenting the stamped image with Scribble Sticks. I stamped the quote on Dina’s Media Tape, which is sort of like homemade Washi tape (I scribbled on it also). I added a thin strip of patterned Washi tape I had in my stash as well. I’m entering this card in the Creative Artiste’s Challenge #26, which is to create using mixed media. Thanks for visiting.

Journal pages with bird tags

journal-birdtags

Just a quick post to show a two-page spread from my journal. I created this during my Dina Wakley class marathon last weekend when she came to Salem. It is not obvious from the photo, but the tags are in little pockets and can be pulled out. I used Dina’s acrylic paint, stencils, stamps and Ranger’s Tim Holtz tissue. Lots of fun!

Retro Sketch #179–and put a bird on it!

retrosketch-179-birdonit

  • Stamps –
    • Ranger/Dina Wakley Media “Scribbly Birds”
    • Printworks “Thank You”
  • Patterned papers – KaiserCraft “Outdoor Trail” 6-1/2″ paper pad
  • Ranger Distress inks – Squeezed Lemonade, Bundled Sage and Dried Marigold
  • Wood button – Prima Marketing
  • Enamel dots – Teresa Collins – Orange
  • Twine – Little B – Naturals
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Kraft paper

I created this card with one of the cute bird images by Dina Wakley. First I applied Ranger Distress inks to the paper, blending the three colors in a somewhat random manner. Then I stamped the image onto the inked cardstock and cut it out. This background paper is spot varnished, so it has a real sheen to it (I think you can see it in the photo). I used the current challenge sketch at Retro Sketches (#179) and also will enter this in the Shopping Our Stash #217: Put a Bird on it! Using inspiration from the sketch to put this card together was pretty fun. Thanks for visiting today.
