Free to Fly

  • Stamp – Stamper’s Anonymous/Tim Holtz Collection – Mini Blueprints – CMS 136 (bat)
  • Stencil – Stamper’s Anonymous/Tim Holtz Collection – Shatter – THS 014
  • Patterned paper – Tim Holtz Idea-ology – Kraft Stock 8 X 8″ pad – Halloween – TH93609
  • Twine – Tim Holtz Idea-ology – Jute String – Halloween – TH93315
  • Inks –
    • Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Oxides: Spiced Marmalade, Black Soot, Dusty Concord, and Shaded Lilac
    • Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress: Dusty Concord, Chipped Sapphire
  • Metallic Sticker – Tim Holtz Idea-ology – Quotations – TH93559

I started out creating backgrounds with no other plan but to make some Distress Oxide backgrounds using Halloween-y colors. The background for this card started out with Spiced Marmalade, Black Soot and Dusty Concord and lots of water and leaving some white space. I then applied Shaded Lilac Distress Oxide ink through the Shatter stencil. I edged it with Black Soot and added a little more water splatters to the blended inks.

Meanwhile, I stamped the bat in black Archival ink on white cardstock and trimmed away the labeling on the image. I colored it by blending Dusty Concord and Chipped Sapphire (regular) Distress ink to color the bat. I then adhered it to the background with dimensional adhesive. I added the “Free to Fly” sticker to the scene. I assembled the card by adhering the patterned paper to a card base, tying the twine around the top of the bat scene and adhering it all onto the card.

This was a fun one! Thanks for stopping by. For a closer look:

Piles of pumpkins and kitties

  • Stamps – Newton’s Nook – Newton’s Pumpkin Patch
  • Patterned paper – Authentique – Nightfall Seven
  • Embossing powder – Ranger Wendy Vecchi – Orange Blossom
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Copic markers
  • Ranger Distress inks: Carved Pumpkin, Peeled Paint and Hickory Smoke

This is a pretty adorable image of the kitties among the pumpkins by Newton’s Nook. Their animal designs are some of my favorites! I colored the image with Copic markers and trimmed it out so no white was showing. I inked the edges with a black Sharpie to cover any white paper edges. The sentiment is heat embossed, adding a little shine to the words. I trimmed the sentiment flag-style. Before I adhered the foreground, I applied some Distress inks to the patterned paper, beginning with Hickory Smoke and then adding Peeled Paint ink for a colorful shadow beneath the image. I popped up the image with dimensional adhesive and then edged the panel with Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink. Thanks for visiting today.

Celebrate with a parade

  • Stamps –
    • Paper Parachute “Parade #2”
    • Technique Tuesday “Amaryllis” (Celebrate sentiment)
  • Stencils – Stampendous/Tim Holtz: Feather, Hearts, Thatched, Countdown
  • Ranger Distress Oxide inks – Picked Raspberries, Broken China, Squeezed Lemonade, Antique Linen
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs

I created this card from experiments done after reviewing the March 2018 issue of Craft Stamper Magazine. I created the background by applying several colors of Distress Oxide inks with a foam applicator, radiating from the center. I then stenciled over the inked sections with more Distress Oxide inks, sometimes just concentrating more ink over the same color and sometimes with a contrasting color. I then splattered a bit of water onto the background, illustrating the beauty of Oxide inks. Once it was dry, I stamped the main image onto the background with black Versafine ink, added the sentiment with dimensional adhesive, and scattered a few sequins around the cast of characters. Thanks for stopping by.

Mixed media birthday gent

  • Stamps –
    • Stamper’s Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection “Little Things”
    • Hero Arts “Petite Birthday”
  • Patterned paper – BoBunny “Enchanted Garden Periodical”
  • Ranger Distress Collage Medium – Crazing

  • Stencil – Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection “Houndstooth”

I created this card for my brother-in-law’s birthday. I started with the BoBunny paper, which I lightly gessoed and layered some ephemera and tape on top. I covered the entire surface with collage medium. I applied some Distress inks through a stencil and more inks with a sponge applicator to add some more color. Once everything was dry, I stamped the globe and postage stamp images, along with the birthday sentiment. Finally I adhered the whole panel onto a card base. Thanks for visiting.

Authentique Bird Mixed Media Tag

  • Patterned papers – Authentique “Refreshed Collection: Refreshed Four” and “Refreshed Collection: Refreshed Six”
  • Die – My Favorite Things “Stitched Tags”
  • Tea Bag
  • Stencil – Dina Wakley Media “Plastic Canvas”
  • Acrylic paint – Dina Wakley Media “Blushing”
  • Scribble Stick – Dina Wakley Media “Ruby”
  • Washi tape – Dina Wakley Media
  • Twine

I created this mixed media tag for a class I taught. I really enjoyed putting it together with a variety of materials and knowing that combining these materials would be something new for some of the students. I began with a die-cut tag from raindrop patterned paper. Layers include some stenciled acrylic paint, washi tape, and tea bag paper beneath the fussy-cut bird from Autentique paper. An almost single layer card

  • Stamps –
    • Art Gone Wild “Fancy Florals”
    • Kodomo “Happy Birthday”
  • Ink – Ranger Distress – Picked Raspberry
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs, Inc.
  • Glitter – Ranger Stickles – Diamond
  • Cardstock – Neenah Solar White and BoBunny Back-To-Back Dots

I created this card as a one-layer card with the exception of the sentiment. I stamped the flower stamp, masking it so I could overlap flowers. I added the more solid “background” on the left-hand side by applying ink to my Gelli Plate. I cut around some of the flowers on the right side for some visual initerest. For the flower centers, I added glitter with Stickles, and then scattered a few sequins around the flowers for a little more shine. Finally I added the birthday sentiment. Thanks for stopping by.

Distress Oxide Watercolor Florals

  • Inks – Ranger Distress Oxides:
    • Background – Squeezed Lemonade, Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron
    • Flowers – Spiced Marmalade, Worn Lipstick, Wilted Violet, Lucky Clover
    • Sentiment – VersaFine Clair: Medieval Blue
  • Stamps –
    • Hero Arts – F2665 – “A Real Field Wildflower” and H3259 – “Real Fuchsia”
    • Avery Elle – “Loads of Wishes”
  • Die – Spellbinders Nestabilities
  • Metallic embellishments – made with Imagine “irRESISTible” Silver Pico embellishing drops
  • Cardstock –
    • BoBunny Ocean Double-Dot
    • Neenah Solar White

It was fun to pull out these wood-mounted stamps that I’ve had for years (copyrights on the stamps are 2003 and 2005, when I most likely purchased them)! I started out by making the backgrounds with Distress Oxide inks and water in some of my favorite color combinations. Then I applied ink directly to the rubber stamps and spritzed them with water, then stamped onto the backgrounds. These stamps lend themselves well to a watercolor effect. For a clean and simple card, I just added a die-cut (split one between the two cards), and stamped a sentiment. For a final flourish, I added some subtle bling with the irRESISTible drops and mounted onto a white card base. Thanks for visiting.
