Butterfly with Perfect Pearls Background

occ-stretch2-ppearlbkgrnd

  • Stamp – Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous “Reverse Damask”
  • Dies – Memory Box “Swirl Butterfly”, Elizabeth Craft Designs “Best Wishes” and Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Ranger Perfect Pearls – Plum, Perfect Gold, Kiwi, and Rust
  • Embossing Powder – Stampendous – Opaque Gold
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Ranger Glossy Accents

I was inspired by a lesson in the Online Card Classes Stretch Your Stamps 2 class to play with a background stamp and Perfect Pearls. I stamped the lovely background image with Perfect Medium and then applied Perfect Pearls to make an elegant sheen on the dark brown cardstock. I covered the die cut butterfly with gold embossing powder and heat set it. I wanted to repeat a little of the gold used in the background to tie the butterfly focal point to the background. For the sentiment, I used the die cut words, adhered them to a fishtail-cut flag, and covered it all with Glossy Accents to bring on a little more shine. Thanks for visiting.

Falling leaves – Thank You

leaves-thankyou

  • Stamps –
    • PrintWorks “Fall Leaf”
    • Fred B. Mullett “Maple 2”
    • Hero Arts “Everyday Sayings”
  • Stencil – Memory Box “Flourish”
  • Ranger Distress Inks – Spiced Marmalade, Peeled Paint, Walnut Stain, Mustard Seed, Antique Linen
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This was a fun card to make. I was sitting along Fall River in Central Oregon on a very warm day last weekend and created this card. Distress techniques lend themselves well to dusty, outdoor locations! I created the base background with a Memory Box stencil and Distress Ink and then stamped and cut out the leaves, splattering them with water and Distress Ink. I used the same stamps on watercolor papleaves-close-uper with less ink and more water to give indications of leaves and more splatters. I attached the leaf cut-outs on top of all of the layers and then stamped the sentiment on a small scrap colored with the same ink colors. All elements are edged with ink to finish them. I’m trying to make some Autumn cards for Operation Write Home before the deadline. Thanks for visiting.

  • Cardstock – BoBunny and Bazzill

I made this for the Virtual Cardmaking Party at OWH for Fourth of July weekend 2014. This challenge was to create a card using at least three textures. I used the textured panels for the background and used die cuts for the sentiment and imagery. Thanks for visiting.

A Penguin Hello

fm-penguinhello

  • Stamps – Memory Box “Penguins at Play” (penguin and bow tie) and My Mind’s Eye “Find Your Wings and Fly” (Hello bubble)
  • Patterned papers – Pebbles “Walnut Grove: Nancy” (black and white chevrons), BoBunny Dot-to-Dot “Licorice Dot” (black flourish) and Lawn Fawn “Bright Side” collection (bow tie)
  • Stickers – Heidi Swapp enamel stickers
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

What’s black and white and blue all over? Well, I wish I could come up with a good punch line. The blue gives the penguin a nice icy touch! I made this card for two different challenges. The sketch is the current one at Freshly Made Sketches #141. I also used a black and white, plus one more color pallette that included a word bubble in response to the Friday Mashup #165 It’s All About the Bubble challenge. Whew! It is always fun to use this Memory Box penguin set because you can dress him up for any occasion. This was just a simple bow tie day! I stamped the bow tie on a piece of patterned paper to dress him up a bit. Thanks for stopping by today!

Clean and Simple Anniversary – Grays

anniversary-2014

  • Stamp – Hero Arts “Everyday Sayings”
  • Patterned Paper – We R Memory Keepers “Winter Frost Collection: Frost”
  • Dies – Memory Box “Valerian Flourish” and Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Nine” and “Standard Circles Large”
  • Black Pearls – KaiserCraft
  • Cardstock – WorldWin and Bazzill

I really like to use the color gray in design. It is a neutral with so many possibilities. This week’s CAS-ual Friday challenge (CFC129) is to use at least two shades of gray in a clean and simple project. I have used several different colors of gray (one silver-y gray!) cardstock and there are grays in the patterned paper also. I gave this card to my husband for our 20th wedding anniversary, which we celebrated yesterday. Thanks for stopping by.

My Squirrely Valentine

squirrely-valentine1

  • Die – Memory Box “Secret Squirrel”
  • Die – Memory Box “Mini Heart Collection”
  • Die – Simon Says Stamp “Medium Tags”
  • Die – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Tag Sayings”
  • Patterned paper – SEI “With All My Heart”
  • Pearls – KaiserCraft
  • Heart Rain Dots – Cloud 9 Design
  • Paper String – Tim Holtz Idea-ology
  • Glitter pen – Sakura Gelly Roll – Clear Star
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

It is always good to incorporate a squirrel into any card! This Valentine is for my son, who is rather fond of these furry creatures. This design, which I made up as I went, is pretty fun with some of the elements extending over the edge of the card base. CAS-ual Friday Challenge #127 this week is to do just that. It also is a perfect card for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Have a Heart. I pulled a number of different supplies out of my stash for this. There was glitter and shine in the paper, stickers, and faux stitching that I drew around the edges with glitter pen. The only thing that I hadn’t used before was the patterned paper and the squirrel die. Since I was pretty much snowed-in, I had to use my stash, right? So I guess this is appropriate to post for the Shopping Our Stash Challenge #137: Love Me Tender. Thanks for visiting today.

Butterflies with Dimensional Stenciled Background

occ-stencil-day3-paste

  • Stencil – Memory Box “Cressida”
  • Die Cuts – made from Memory Box dies: Darla Butterfly, Vivienne Butterfly, Moonlight Butterfly, Kaleidoscope Butterfly, Valerian Flourish
  • Bling – KaiserCraft and Mark Richards
  • Sentiment – Stamp by My Favorite Things “Pretty Poppies” set and die cut from Spellbinders Nestabilities from the Blossom Tag and Accents set
  • Golden Modeling Paste
  • Ranger Alcohol Ink – Sail Boat Blue
  • Faber Castell Gelatos
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This was a fun card with lots of different media at work. I started out making the background with inspiration from the latest Online Card Classes class: Stenciled. I mixed a few drops of alcohol ink with some modeling paste to make a nice light blue. I then smeared it through my new (gorgeous) stencil from Memory Box. For the butterflies, I scribbled some Gelatos in blue and green on some watercolor paper and spritzed the color with some water to blend the colors together. Once the Gelatos had dried, I die cut the butterflies and the accompanying detailed butterflies from solid cardstock and glued them together. I added the flourish die cuts to the background and then placed the butterflies and the sentiment on top and applied rhinestones to the flourishes and heads of the butterflies. Lots of texture on this card! Thanks for visiting.

Unscripted Sketches #237 – Sent with Love

Unscripted-237-SentwLove

  • Stamps – from Simon Says Stamp “Square Sayings” clear set
  • Dies – Simon Says Stamp/Memory Box “Tri Squares”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny and Bazzill
  • Corner punch – Fiskars “Romantique”

Here is a new card using the current sketch at Unscripted Sketches #237. I stamped the top three squares with matching ink. The three matching polka-dot squares look like shadows in my interpretation. I popped up the sentiment square with dimensional adhesive just for a little more emphasis. This will be a nice Operation Write Home card . Thanks for visiting.

Squirrely! Squirrely! Shake your bushy tail!

squirrely-onegreatkid

  • Digital image – Bugaboo Digi Stamps “Squirrel”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Tag Sayings”
  • Die – Memory Box “Nutty Acorn”
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Woodgrain”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and BoBunny

Squirrely! Squirrely! Shake your bushy tail! So this is a camp song that my son taught me. He’s pretty crazy for squirrels. This past summer, his first as a counselor, he chose his camp name to be “Chipmunk.” I colored this image with Copic markers and created a nice woodgrain textured background. The Memory Box acorn just seemed like a natural accessory for Squirrely. I created this card for my latest Operation Write Home (OWH) boxes, and I’m a little late (read: a LOT late!), but this is a card fitting for the OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge from the week before last: Love Cards for Kids. Thanks for visiting.

Clean, Simple and Merry!

merry_christmas

  • Die cut made with Memory Box “Grand Merry Christmas” die
  • Patterned papers – SEI “Berry Melody Collection: Christmas” woven sheet with foil accents and KaiserCraft “Christmas Carol Collection: O’Holy Night”
  • Metal accents – Momenta
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This card is very clean and simple, yet merry! This die cut, made with a Memory Box die, creates such a lovely focal point. I like to combine two subtle, patterned papers and just keep it at that with the small snowflake embellishments. Thanks for checking in during this busy time!
