Chevron “Thanks” Card

chevron-thanks

  • Stamp – Lawn Fawn “Chevron Backdrops”
  • Die – Simon Says Stamp “Stamptember Thanks”
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs
  • Bling – Silver metal 3 mm dots
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Ink – Hero Arts “Pool to Navy Ombre” ink pad

I created this clean and simple card using the Lawn Fawn chevron stamp that is great for backgrounds and used a die cut sentiment from Simon Says Stamp. I stamped the design with Hero Arts ombre ink.  The Addicted to CAS Challenge #68 was to use chevron on a clean and simple card. The Operation Write Home (OWH) – Our Daily Bread Challenge for July is a Thank You card. And I added a little bit of sparkle and shine to this card for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog. It’s a three-fer! What fun! This might be my last OWH card. Maybe. Thanks for visiting today!

Foxy Best Kid Ever

HeroArts-BestKidEver

  • Stamps – Hero Arts “OWH Stamp & Cut The Fox Says” and “OWH Lil Hoot” sets
  • Dies – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Two” and Simon Says Stamp “Frames”
  • Patterned papers – BoBunny “Trail Mix Collection” and Glitz “Dapper Dan” 6 X 6″ paper pads
  • Sequins – “Doodlebug Designs, Inc.
  • Cardstock – BoBunny

Here is another kid’s card for my last Operation Write Home box. The Hero Arts foxes are colored with Copic markers. I added a few sequins to provide a little visual interest–just a very simple card. Thanks for stopping by.

Hero Arts Nuts About You

OWHnutsaboutyou

  • Stamps – from Hero Arts “OWH Missing You” set
  • Die – Hero Arts Frame cuts “Stylish Stars Fancy Dies”
  • Patterned papers – BoBunny “Key Lime Collection” 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

Here is a kid’s card for Operation Write Home, starring Mr. Squirrel! I used a Hero Arts star die cut as a backdrop for him. The patterned papers I used for the star and the chevron background are from BoBunny. I colored Mr. Squirrel, also from Hero Arts, with Copic markers. I popped the elements up slightly with thin dimensional adhesive. I was inspired by Sketch #194 at Freshly Made Sketches for this card design. Thanks for visiting.

Vintage Hero Arts Card

heroarts_scramble_vintage

  • Stamps – Hero Arts “Large Flower Background – CG403” Sentiment from LP277 OWH “You’re My World”
  • Lace – Hero Arts – Cream Adhesive Lace
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Pearls – Queen & Co.
  • Inks – Ranger Distress Ink – Victorian Velvet, Old Paper, and Pumice Stone

This was a fun card to make. Over in the Hero Arts group on Flickr, I participated in my first “scramble” challenge. I had 90 minutes to create a card using something from Hero Arts that fit the theme. The theme today was “vintage.” It was sort of a comedy of errors on my part, but I squeaked in at the end of 90 minutes, completing this card. I used Distress Inks direct to the stamp and then spritzed the stamp with water and stamped the image onto watercolor paper. I then added some layers of cardstock and a sentiment from a Hero Arts Operation Write Home (OWH) set. I will add this to my OWH box that I’ll be sending off at the end of July. Thanks for stopping by.

Banner Butterfly – Thanks

banner-thanks

  • Dies –
    • Memory Box “Moonlight Butterfly” and “Kaleidoscope Butterfly”
    • Avery Elle – “Dotted Elle-ments”
    • Spellbinders Nestabilities – “Lacey Circles”
  • Stamp (thanks) – Lawn Fawn “Blue Skies”
  • Patterned papers – Bella Blvd. “Color Chaos” collection
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Faber Castell Gelatos

Here is a colorful card for the day! I created this card for Operation Write Home and I was inspired by the current OWH Mid-month Challenge: Banners. Most of the banners for this card were made from the Avery Elle “Elle-ments” set. I mixed some Gelatos on white cardstock to match some of the colors in the pretty Bella Blvd papers. I spritzed the colors with water to create my own brightly colored paper that I die cut for the background butterfly. I placed the detailed, matching butterfly die cut on top to provide some definition of the wings. Both die cuts are securely adhered beneath the butterfly body so the wings float up a bit,  to give the impression that the bug might fly off the paper! Thanks for stopping by.

Some Birdie Misses You

owh-somebirdie

  • Stamps – Hero Arts “OWH Missing You”
  • Die – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels One”
  • Border punch – Stampin’ Up “Scallop Edge”
  • Patterned paper – Heidi Grace “Sunshowers”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • White Signo Uni-Ball pen

This card just made me happyto make, with happy colors and a funny bird. Hopefully it will cheer the recipient up. It will go in my final Operation Write Home shipment and hopefully a service member will mail this home to a child who needs a smile. I also made this for Challenge #64 at Addicted to CAS, where the challenge is to make a clean and simple card with an animal. I used some patterned paper and colored the bird with Copic markers. I liked keeping the “white space” on the right hand side with the sentiment. I pulled the whole design together with the hand-drawn “stitching.” I’m coloring for at least 10 minutes everyday for The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge, which is a fun addition to any day! Thanks for visiting.

OWH Finishing Strong Bloghop

Welcome to my stop on the Operation Write Home (OWH) Finishing Strong Bloghop on this Memorial Day Weekend! There are a lot of cardmakers participating in the hop, so visit as many as you can and check out the great assortment of cards and talent! Click here to return back to the Hop’s home. I’ve been participating in OWH by making cards since early 2011. I’m proud to say that cardmakers have made MILLIONS of cards for our Heroes

Operation Write Home, a charity that has supported heroes with handmade cards since 2007, will be closing later this year. All cards need to be sent in by August 1st, so I’m helping to get the word out!

Here is my card for the hop:

owh-bloghop-strong

  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “OWH Brave”
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Two”
  • Patterned papers – Echo Park “For the Record 2” (blue dots) and KaiserCraft “Tropical Punch Collection: Sunny” (red)
  • Epoxy stickers – Doodlebug Designs Inc. “Sprinkles”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I used OWH Sketch # 185 as a point of departure for this card. The color scheme is red, white and blue without it being a patriotic card per se. It is a very clean and simple design. Thanks for visiting my stop on the hop and have a great weekend! To return to OWH Stars and Stamp and to the bloghop, click here.

February Mid-month Throwdown: Cards for Kids

OWH-midmonth-kids

  • Patterned papers – Doodlebug Designs “Hip Hip Horray: Party Animals” (both sides)
  • Stamp -Hero Arts “Year Round Sentiments”
  • Dies – Memory Box “Round Buttons”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Baker’s Twine – Doodlebug Designs

I made this card for the February Mid-month Challenge over at Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps. The challenge is to make cards for kids, which is my absolute favorite type of card to make for OWH! This is a simple, colorful card featuring the Doodlebug paper with lots of kid-friendly characters. I was also inspired by the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches: #175. I like the simplicity of the sketch since the paper is so visually dominant. Thanks for visiting today.

I Pine for You – OWH Sketch #245

owh-sketch-245-pine4you

  • Stamps –
    • Owl – Hero Arts “OWH Missing You” set
    • Sentiment – Lawn Fawn “Critters in the Forest” set
  • Die – Hero Arts Frame Cuts – “Missing You Cuts OWH”
  • Patterned papers – BoBunny “Trail Mix” collection 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Cardstock – Paper Accents

Here is a woodsy card for the day. I colored the owl with Copic markers after cutting it out with the matching die. I liked how the background patterned paper has a round motif and the circle die-cut behind the owl repeats that. This is OWH Sketch #245 and will be a good addition to my “Miss You” section of my Operation Write Home collection. Thanks for visiting.

My Top 14 OWH Cards in 2014

OWHtop14

Happy New Year! It seems like I just reviewed my 2103 cards and it is already time to reminisce about the past year’s Operation Write Home (OWH) cards! OWH is still going strong even though we have fewer troops deployed. To find out more details about OWH’s current direction, please check Operation Rolling Tapegun, which has frequent updates. The number of service members stationed is changing, but quality cards are still needed.

Now, onto my cards. These are my top 14 choices, in no particular order, from the OWH cards I made in 2014. I must confess that a few of these haven’t quite made it to be shipped yet! But that will happen soon!
