I created this card from experiments done after reviewing the March 2018 issue of Craft Stamper Magazine. I created the background by applying several colors of Distress Oxide inks with a foam applicator, radiating from the center. I then stenciled over the inked sections with more Distress Oxide inks, sometimes just concentrating more ink over the same color and sometimes with a contrasting color. I then splattered a bit of water onto the background, illustrating the beauty of Oxide inks. Once it was dry, I stamped the main image onto the background with black Versafine ink, added the sentiment with dimensional adhesive, and scattered a few sequins around the cast of characters. I created this card for my brother-in-law’s birthday. I started with the BoBunny paper, which I lightly gessoed and layered some ephemera and tape on top. I covered the entire surface with collage medium. I applied some Distress inks through a stencil and more inks with a sponge applicator to add some more color. Once everything was dry, I stamped the globe and postage stamp images, along with the birthday sentiment. Finally I adhered the whole panel onto a card base. Thanks for visiting.

I believe this card is technically called a flip card, although I’ve also seen it referred to as a flop card! I wouldn’t call it a flop–I’ve made much worse cards! Anyhoo, it is constructed so that when you open it up the butterfly on the front flips and the sentiment is behind it. You can get the idea in the photo below.
I heat-embossed the moth on the front with a subtly iridescent powder, which isn’t overly evident in the top photo. This Graphic45 paper collection is so pretty, it was hard to choose which patterns to use! I’ve been coveting it for a long time! But I really was drawn to the greens of these two papers. I created this mixed media card beginning with a beverage napkin that I adhered to a piece of Bristol paper with gel medium. I stamped and lightly painted some deli paper and added tissue tape to the piece. Then I applied the 3-D gloss gel through a couple of different stencils and allowed that to dry into a nice textured coating.
I have included a detailed photo so you can see the texture of the stenciled 3-D gel medium. It is pretty cool!
I loosely outlined the heart with the Fude Ball pen and then ran my metallic gold pen around the entire card, topping it off with a piece of ribbon and some sequins. I mounted the piece onto a black card base. It is amazing what you can do with a paper napkin! Thanks for visiting.

This card started out with Distress Oxide inks with the addition of Snowflake Paste through the snowflake stencil. I stamped the snowman and added some color with Copic markers, cut it out and adhered it to the background with dimensional adhesive. I heat embossed the sentiment on vellum and sprayed another scrap of white cardstock with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, cutting it in a strip and adhering it behind the background. I then wrapped the vellum around the snowman and background. To finish off the card, I added the festive sequins in threes above and below the main image. I started this card by creating a background with Distress Oxide ins, layering colors and spritzing with water. Once I was satisfied, I applied the sparkly Snowflake Paste through a stencil so that the stars covered the background. The Snowflake Paste is really effective in creating an interesting background with a subtle sparkle. You can get an idea of the effect the close-up featured in the photo below.

I worked on these tags over quite an extensive period of time: layering, drying, analyzing… They were a lot of fun to make though. I cut the tags from a Tim Holtz die set that I’ve had for years and comes in handy because I can make lots of different sizes with it. I made backgrounds on the larger two tags using Distress Oxide inks in blues. Then I added torn butterflies from the napkin applying them with gel medium.
Because I was layering the tag pairs, I added more details on the smaller ones as they would be most visible. I started by collaging torn dictionary paper and Tim Holtz tissue wrap with gel medium onto the gessoed tag surface. I then applied texture paste through stencils. Once that was dry, I layered Distress Oxide ink (Worn Lipstick) over the top and distressed the edges of the small tags with the Tonic Studios paper distressing tool. I added some spritzes of Perfect Pearls mist to add some sheen.
I used more Distress Inks for the butterfly layers, the base layer in blues and Worn Lipstick and the top layer with Black Soot. I then die-cut the black layer and placed it over the base layer so just the center of the body was attached and the wings stick up. I colored the white ribbon with distress ink for a perfect match and tied the two tags together.

I’m kind of thinking I should rename my blog “Lots o’ Layers,” based on some of my projects! I certainly get caught up in enjoying the process and never am very sure of the outcome! For this piece I was inspired by a technique demonstrated in the November issue of Craft Stamper Magazine. The unique step that I took away was using white embossing powder almost as a paint rather than embossing from a stamped image.
I die cut a number of different circles and used one large circle for the base. I stamped the two larger circles with VersaMark and then also applied a bit more VersaMark ink with my finger before adding the embossing powder and heating. After stamping the leaves with Distress inks and moving the colors a bit with a waterbrush, I applied VersaMark ink with my finger, then white embossing powder and heat-set the powder. The bright colors of the ink and some of the embossing powders, along with the white embossing powder, made this a visually interesting collage. I added cheese cloth, paper from a tea bag cut into a circle, sequins and ephemera, layer by layer and topped it off with the little sticker sentiment: Finders Keepers. Thanks for visiting today.

This card was fun to make because of all the layers–and of course it took me a very long time, just because when I’m making decisions as I move through the process it always takes me a long time! I really enjoy the process and since it is my birthday today, I indulged in getting messy and creative.
I started out by applying texture paste through the leaf stencil onto watercolor paper. I love leaves as a theme in my work! Then I stared at it for awhile, and added Distress Crayons all over the piece, blending as I went along. I then scrubbed some of the color away with a damp paper towel through a couple of stencils and continued to blend colors by adding a bit of water until I was satisfied.
Meanwhile I stamped leaves on tissue wrap with black Archival ink and added some ink splatters and Mica Spray. Once this was dry, I added some torn pieces of the stamped tissue with gel medium to the piece. I then cut the piece I would need for my card design and applied Walnut Stain Distress Ink to the edges. I wrapped it with paper string and attached the brass leaf charm.
On another scrap of watercolor paper, I watercolored with some Distress Inks and lightly stamped a few more leaves. This was meant to be a background for my sentiment, so I didn’t want my colors to be very intense. One dry, I cut out the sentiment piece, applied Walnut Stain Distress ink to the edges, and popped on the sentiment sticker. I attached the two pieces to cardstock and called it a day. This image was created with a stamp and stencil set. First I stamped it with black ink and then I applied Ranger Distress inks through the stencil to color the image. I used Distress markers to color the tall vegetation in the background. I framed it with the Lawn Fawn die-cut and layered all on top of the lovely handmade paper by Black Ink.
