- Embossing folder – We R Memory Keepers “Gemstones”
- Patterned paper – Pebbles “Trick or Treat”
- Ranger Distress Ink – Seedless Preserves
- Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist – Biscotti
- Cardstock – Paper Accents
This is another card I created with the Halloween die-cuts that I’ve had for a number of years. The background is dry embossed with distress ink applied to the “hills” of the texture. This adds a subtle purple outline of the pattern on the grey cardstock. I sprayed it all with Perfect Pearls mist to give it a nice sheen. Thanks for visiting.

In honor of World Cardmaking Day on October 1st, I hosted a make and take at Runaway Art and Craft Studio. We played with this stamp set from the French company, Carabelle Studios and I made several cards with it. I stamped the scarecrow on orange cardstock and fussy cut him. The background is stenciled with Distress Inks and the sentiment is from the Stampers Anonymous set. Thanks for visiting.

Just a quick post to show a two-page spread from my journal. I created this during my Dina Wakley class marathon last weekend when she came to Salem. It is not obvious from the photo, but the tags are in little pockets and can be pulled out. I used Dina’s acrylic paint, stencils, stamps and Ranger’s Tim Holtz tissue. Lots of fun!

- Stamp and stencil set – Stampers Anonymous Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 “Hydrangea”
- Die (Tag) – Simon Says Stamp “Medium Tags”
- Stamp (Sentiment) – Simon Says Stamp “Happy & Smile” set
- Patterned paper – BoBunny “Enchanted Garden”

- Embossing paste – translucent – Wendy Vecchi Studio 490
- Sequins – Simon Says Stamp – Assorted Moonshine
- Cardstock – Paper Accents “Lavender Twilight”
I created this card for my sister’s birthday. I had created a number of images with the hydrangea stamp and stencil set when I was demonstrating with them at Runaway Art and Craft Studio in Salem, Oregon. After I stamped and colored this image with Distress inks, I added some translucent embossing paste over the flowers to add some texture. I put the image together with a birthday tag colored with matching Distress ink and added some sequin sparkle. This Anything Goes card fits the Simon Says Stamp Blog Wednesday Challenge this week and the Simon Says Stamp Flickr Challenge, too. Thanks for visiting.

- Stamp – Ranger – Dina Wakley “Scribbly Birds”
- Patterned paper – Basic Grey – “Urban Luxe”
- Die cut (Hi There) – Basic Grey – “Urban Luxe”
- Twine – American Crafts
- Cardstock
- Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers
First I stamped the bird with black ink and then colored different areas with brightly colored Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I applied water with a water brush and blended the colors to complete the bird image. I found some patterned paper in my stash that matched well for the background. I used Freshly Made Sketches Challenge Sketch #237 as inspiration for this card. Thanks for visiting.

- Ranger – Dina Wakley Media Clear Gesso
- Ranger – Texture Paste – Transparent Matte
- Patterned paper – 7 Gypsies
- Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists
- Ranger Dylusions Ink Spray – White Linen
- Tim Holtz Stencil – Dot Fade
- Zig Clean Color markers
- Cardstock – Bazzill and Paper Accents
- Ribbon – Michael’s
I created the background for this card when I made a number of them a couple of weeks ago. There are layers of gesso, texture paste, and inks on patterned paper. To see details, check out my previous post.
I stamped this pretty crocus and then watercolored it with Zig Clean Color markers and a water brush. I then cut it out using the matching die and completed watercoloring the edges of the image before popping it up on the background. This qualified me for the Shopping our Stash Challenge #241 – White Out (No white paper showing)! It also fits the bill for the Mixed Media Mojo March 2016 Challenge: Springtime and Watercolor. Since we have crocus flowers popping up right now, this seemed appropriate for this time of year: almost Spring! Thanks for visiting.

I was inspired by an technique in the February Craft Stamper magazine, pages 23-25. Mine is a (minimalist!) variation on what Mona Pendleton did to create some lovely vintage Valentines. Do check out what Mona did because her work is absolutely beautiful! There was quite a process involved in creating these backgrounds with some drying time between layers. You can go on forever layering! I started with a piece of patterned paper. This is difficult, because you will be covering up much of the design of the paper, but if you are like me, you’ve got an abundance to work with! The pattern will peek through when you are finished.
Add a layer of clear gesso to the patterned paper and allow it to dry–this is pretty quick. Then I applied the texture/embossing paste through a stencil. I tried both types that I had (listed above). You will want to experiment with the finish you prefer–some dry matte and others are glossy. These pastes are translucent (you can choose something opaque for a different look), adding a subtle layer I really liked. The pastes take a while to dry, so this is when you need to be a little bit patient and set this aside so they are completely dry before the next step.
Next I applied ink sprays and spritzed with some water so they ran and mixed together. This is the messy part, but it is really fun to see what you can do! I did really like the look of adding more white Gesso and spritzing it with water, as I added some of spray inks in different areas of the paper. I also liked using the Dylusions White Linen ink spray for a similar white, opaque layer. Using ink sprays containing mica, like the Glimmer Mists, really gave a nice sparkly effect without being overly glitzy. The spray inks really bring out the texture of the stenciled designs done earlier with the paste. You can use baby wipes to take away areas you think are too dark or to expose more of the original background if you like.
Thanks for stopping by. I’ll post a card soon, showing an example of how these backgrounds can be used.

- Dies – Simon Says Stamp “Stitched Daisies”
- Stencil – Ranger Dylusions “Fronds of Foliage”
- Tag – Ranger #8 Manila Tag
- Distress Crayons – Ranger Tim Holtz: Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves, and Mermaid Lagoon
- Distress Inks – Ranger Tim Holtz: Chipped Sapphire and Salty Ocean
- Cardstock – Bazzill
- Ribbon
This tag was my first experiment with Distress Crayons. I started with a manila tag and colored it with three different colors of the crayons, pretty much covering the whole tag. I spritzed it with water and blended the colors a bit. I applied Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink through the stencil in a few spots and then applied Salty Ocean ink all around the edges of the tag, blending all of the colors together. Along the way, I spritzed and splattered some water to add some nice spots! The focal point is the set of daisy die cuts from Simon Says Stamp, that I also distressed with Chipped Sapphire before adhering to the tag. I like how the ink picks up the faux stitching on the daisies. Thanks for visiting today.

I used a whole bunch of stuff in order to create the layers for this little canvas! And I used glitter and other shiny stuff that I don’t often use. The Mixed Media Mojo Challenge for January 2016 is to create something with a Winter theme and you can add a glitter twist.
I layered a lot of different products after the gesso to create a snowflakey, snowy feeling. The pearlescent modeling creme also gave off a nice sheen, as did the glitter and the embossing powder for the sentiment. The whipped spackle also give the impression of snow. I have a lot of snowflake stamps, dies and even a stencil, so it is nice to use them for something other than Christmas cards!
I like the size of this small canvas. It isn’t overwhelming and I am thinking that if I create these for each of the seasons that might be a fun little home decor item.
Thanks for stopping by!
