Fly Softly

Supplies:

  • Stamps – The Cat’s Pajamas “Feelin’ Cupidy”
  • Dies –
    • Lawn Fawn Lawn Cuts “Outside in Stitched Scalloped Square Stackables”
    • WPlus9 “Stackers Hearts”
  • Copic markers

  • Red Mirror cardstock – Paper Accents

The Valentine season is approaching and who better to provide helpful advice, but the TCP bunny! I colored him with Copics, fussy cut him, then placed him on the die-cut layers with dimensional adhesive. I drew a dash-dot-dash line around the square layers and popped the sentiment on top. Thanks for stopping by.

Cards for the Troops: Squirrels and Such

Supplies:

  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Indie Chic” 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Dies –
    • Impression Obsession “Squirrels”
    • Simon Says Stamp “Smile Circle”
    • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Cardstock – Neenah Solar White and Kraft

I’m helping a friend put together a box of cards to send to a military unit so they can send cards home to their friends and family, similar to what we used to do for Operation Write Home. A group of us are challenging each other to use sketches, use up supplies, and so on. I created these three cards using a sketch from the Operation Write Home days. Here are a few of the cards I’ve made with this sketch so far. Thanks for stopping by.

Happiness in 2018

  • Stamp – Inky Antics “New Year Cheer”
  • Die – My Favorite Things “Pierced Rectangles”
  • Distress Oxide Inks – Ranger – Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber, and Spiced Marmalade
  • Patterned paper – Authentique “Bountiful”
  • Sequins
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Embossing powder – Lawn Fawn – gold

I created this card using a variety of items I’ve accumulated, both old and new. I’m challenging myself to use (and hopefully use-up!) things in my stash. I always make a few New Year’s cards to send to people who I didn’t quite get Christmas cards mailed to in time. I created the background for this one by combining three different Distress Oxide inks. I really like the calligraphic Inky Antics stamp and embossing it in gold seemed appropriate for New Year’s. I added a few sequins for a bit more sparkle. Thanks for visiting.

Sleepy Owl’s Birthday

  • Stamps –
    • Impression Obsession “Sleepy Owl”
    • The Cat’s Pajamas “Simply Said”
  • Patterned papers –
    • BoBunny “Enchanted Garden Romance” and “Dot to Dot – Violet Dot”
    • Bazzill – “Antique Script”
  • Copic Markers
  • Embossing Powder – Ranger Ink

I’ve had this owl stamp and the patterned paper on the card base for years, so it was fun to create this card for an owl enthusiast with it. I colored the image with Copic markers, fussy-cut it, and layered it onto a couple of layers of patterned paper. I heat embossed the sentiment onto the black paper so it would stand out. A very simple card. Thanks for stopping by.

Happy New Year – With Lots of Color

  • Patterned papers – Pink & Main “My Heart” 6 X 6″ pad
  • Stamp – Hero Arts – CM100 “Christmas Messages”
  • Dies – My Favorite Things Die-namics Blueprints 13
  • Cardstock – Paper Accents

I really enjoyed making this card because I got to combine all of the colorful strips of paper together. All of that pattern plays nicely together when it is separated by the black barriers! This is a great sketch. I added a few stars die-cut from gold metallic cardstock to make the sentiment a bit more festive.

Thanks for visiting and Happy New Year!

Freshly Made Snowman

  • Stamps –
    • Stampers Anonymous The Art of Brett Weldele “Blizzy the Happy Snowman”
    • Fancy Pants Designs  “Merry & Bright”
  • Stencil – Creative Expressions mini stencil “Snowflakes”
  • Texture paste – Finnabair Art Extravagance Snowflake Paste
  • Inks – Ranger Distress Oxides: Cracked Pistachio, Faded Jeans, Broken China
  • Sprays – Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist
  • Sequins – Hero Arts Frost Sequin Mix
  • Vellum – Paper Accents “Light Blue”
  • Embossing powder – Stampendous “Aqua”
  • Cardstock – Kaisercraft KaiserCard “Neptune”

This card started out with Distress Oxide inks with the addition of Snowflake Paste through the snowflake stencil. I stamped the snowman and added some color with Copic markers, cut it out and adhered it to the background with dimensional adhesive. I heat embossed the sentiment on vellum and sprayed another scrap of white cardstock with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, cutting it in a strip and adhering it behind the background. I then wrapped the vellum around the snowman and background. To finish off the card, I added the festive sequins in threes above and below the main image. I used the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration. Thanks for stopping by.

A Vintage Journey “Winter Wonderland”

Joyful Snowflake Card

  • Dies –
    • Sizzix Thinlets Tim Holtz Alterations “Paper Snowflakes”
    • Penny Black “Love & Joy”
  • Stencil – Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection “Starry”
  • Texture paste – Finnabair Art Extravagance Snowflake Paste
  • Inks – Ranger Distress Oxides: Cracked Pistachio, Faded Jeans, Broken China
  • Sequins – Simon Says Stamp “Moonshine”
  • Cardstock

I started this card by creating a background with Distress Oxide ins, layering colors and spritzing with water. Once I was satisfied, I applied the sparkly Snowflake Paste through a stencil so that the stars covered the background. The Snowflake Paste is really effective in creating an interesting background with a subtle sparkle. You can get an idea of the effect the close-up featured in the photo below.

I then added the die-cuts and sequins, layering the papers to create the card using inspiration from the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches. Thanks for stopping by.

Mod Squad Challenge – What a Flake!

White on White Snowflakes

  • Dies –
    • Simon Says Stamp – Merry Christmas, Abby Snowflake, and Melody Snoflake
    • Impression Obsession – Snowflakes Die Set
  • Sequins – Simon Says Stamp – Moonshine
  • Ink – Ranger Ink Distress ink – Tumbled Glass
  • Cardstock – Neenah Solar White
  • Zig Wink of Stella clear brush pen

I created this simple, almost completely white card for a wintery Christmas card. I die cut snowflakes and the sentiment from white cardstock, cutting two of each and layering each pair together so the dimension would make them stand up and out on the white background a little more clearly. I edged the card front with light blue ink and mounted it on a white card base. I applied clear sparkly ink to the snowflakes with the Wink of Stella pen and added some iridescent clear sequins to accentuate the wintery look. Thanks for stopping by.

Have a Cool Yule!

  • Stamps – The Cat’s Pajamas “Penguin Christmas” and “Polar Holiday” (sentiment)
  • Dies – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Fifteen”
  • Patterned papers – Basic Grey “Jovial” collection and American Crafts “North Pole” collection
  • Embossing Powder – Ranger Ink Wendy Vecchi “Red Geranium”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Copic markers
  • Sakura Glaze pens

Some of my cardmaking friends alerted me to a request that had been made by a 9-year old boy from Maine with cancer who wants to celebrate Christmas early this year. What he really wants are Christmas cards from all over the United States. The detail that really caught my attention is that he loves penguins! I was anxious to grant him his wish and mail him a handmade card from the other side of the country. Hopefully all of the holiday mail he is receiving is bringing him many smiles.

I went back into my stash to create this card! I’ve had these stamp sets for years! The patterned papers are not new either. I stamped the penguins and colored the image with Copic markers. I added some sparkle and shine with a couple different Glaze pens, but that effect is hard to detect in my photo unfortunately. The sentiment is heat-embossed with the bright red powder and adds some more shine.

Thanks for stopping by.

Creature Feature

  • Stamps – My Favorite Things – “Witch Way Candy?”
  • Embossing folder – Sizzix – “Cobwebs”
  • Copic markers
  • Cardstock – BoBunny and Bazzill

This card design was very simple because all of the cute creatures with a backdrop of an embossed spiderweb stole the show.

I colored and hand-cut all of the stamped images, because I had not purchased the matching dies. I’ve remedied this poor decision by recently acquiring the dies with a gift card that I won from My Favorite Things!

The coloring took the most time, blending Copics. Once I colored and cut all of the pieces, the next challenge was arranging them to my liking. I popped up the bat with dimensional adhesive so he is fairly flying.

Thanks for visiting and, even though it is nearly over, Happy Halloween!
