Falling leaves – Thank You

leaves-thankyou

  • Stamps –
    • PrintWorks “Fall Leaf”
    • Fred B. Mullett “Maple 2”
    • Hero Arts “Everyday Sayings”
  • Stencil – Memory Box “Flourish”
  • Ranger Distress Inks – Spiced Marmalade, Peeled Paint, Walnut Stain, Mustard Seed, Antique Linen
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This was a fun card to make. I was sitting along Fall River in Central Oregon on a very warm day last weekend and created this card. Distress techniques lend themselves well to dusty, outdoor locations! I created the base background with a Memory Box stencil and Distress Ink and then stamped and cut out the leaves, splattering them with water and Distress Ink. I used the same stamps on watercolor papleaves-close-uper with less ink and more water to give indications of leaves and more splatters. I attached the leaf cut-outs on top of all of the layers and then stamped the sentiment on a small scrap colored with the same ink colors. All elements are edged with ink to finish them. I’m trying to make some Autumn cards for Operation Write Home before the deadline. Thanks for visiting.

You’re the cat’s meow!

  • Stamps – Lawn Fawn “Critters in the ‘Burbs” set
  • Die cut – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Fleur de Lis Rectangles”
  • Stencil – Tim Holtz Collection from Stampers Anonymous “Stripes”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Ranger Distress Inks: Antique Linen and Faded Jeans
  • Watercolor pencils

I’ve been creating some Operation Write Home cards lately. This one could be cheery for a child or an adult. I created the pattern on the card base by pouncing Distress Inks through a stencil and blending. I colored the images with watercolor pencils and filled in areas with a water brush. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH VCMP Teen Time Challenge

  • Stamps – Simon Says Stamp “Sending Happy Thoughts” set
  • Stencil – Stampers Anonymout / Tim Holtz “Hearts”
  • Washi tape – Kelly Purkey
  • Bling – Memory Box (red) and Mark Richards (silver)
  • Cardstock – Neenah Classic Crest – Solar White

I made this card for Becca’s Teen Time challenge at the OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party this weekend. Her challenge was to create a card that would appeal to a teen. One of the things she suggested was a “messy” card, so I ran with that! First I applied Distress Ink with a sponge applicator through a stencil. Then I splattered some of the ink with a water brush and stamped the sentiment with VersaMark and black embossing powder. I stamped a heart from the stamp set over one of the stenciled hearts. Finally, I embellished the card with washi tape and gems. Thanks for stopping by.

OWH – Hexagon Bunny: What’s Shaking?

Stamps – Verve Stamps “Bunny Shake”

Stencil – The Crafter’s Workshop “Hexagons”

Distress Inks – Ranger: Tumbled Glass, Milled Lavendar, Seedless Preserves

Copic Markers

Cardstock – Paper Accents

Today I’m using hexagons for the Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps Midweek Throwdown Challenge to use hexagons on a card. Hexagons have gotten to be a pretty popular shape for stamps, stencils, die cuts, etc. I applied Distress Inks with a sponge applicator using a stencil with various sizes of hexagons for the background. I’ve had this bunny stamp for a long time, but I haven’t ever used him. I colored him very simply with Copic markers. Since I wanted to make him shake (had to do it!), I popped him up with a skinny paper  accordian. Now he shakes! The sentiment was part of this stamp set. Thanks for visiting today.

Butterflies with Dimensional Stenciled Background

occ-stencil-day3-paste

  • Stencil – Memory Box “Cressida”
  • Die Cuts – made from Memory Box dies: Darla Butterfly, Vivienne Butterfly, Moonlight Butterfly, Kaleidoscope Butterfly, Valerian Flourish
  • Bling – KaiserCraft and Mark Richards
  • Sentiment – Stamp by My Favorite Things “Pretty Poppies” set and die cut from Spellbinders Nestabilities from the Blossom Tag and Accents set
  • Golden Modeling Paste
  • Ranger Alcohol Ink – Sail Boat Blue
  • Faber Castell Gelatos
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This was a fun card with lots of different media at work. I started out making the background with inspiration from the latest Online Card Classes class: Stenciled. I mixed a few drops of alcohol ink with some modeling paste to make a nice light blue. I then smeared it through my new (gorgeous) stencil from Memory Box. For the butterflies, I scribbled some Gelatos in blue and green on some watercolor paper and spritzed the color with some water to blend the colors together. Once the Gelatos had dried, I die cut the butterflies and the accompanying detailed butterflies from solid cardstock and glued them together. I added the flourish die cuts to the background and then placed the butterflies and the sentiment on top and applied rhinestones to the flourishes and heads of the butterflies. Lots of texture on this card! Thanks for visiting.

Stenciled Fern – Seahawks colors!

owh-cardbowl-hawkscolors

  • Stencil – The Crafter’s Workshop “Mini Ferns”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Square Sayings”
  • Patterned paper – Echo Park “For the Record 2”
  • Ranger Dylusions Ink Sprays – Fresh Lime, Vibrant Turquoise and London Blue
  • Golden Molding Paste
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I made this card based on a lesson from the Online Card Classes Stenciled class. I tried my hand at using molding paste with a stencil. My variation was to mist the cardstock with ink sprays prior to adding the molding paste and it actually incorporated some of the color into the stenciled image. Kind of a happy accident! I’ve included a close-up here to try to show it in a little more detail.

paste-closeupMy color scheme reflects the colors of the Seattle Seahawks, who will soon be playing in the Super Bowl. The Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps CardBowl is this weekend, and one of the challenges is to use something that reflects one of the teams playing in your card design. Living in the northwest, it seemed only appropriate to select the Seattle team, so I picked the team colors! Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy Birthday – More Stenciling

occ-stencils-day2-birthday

  • Stencil – The Crafter’s Workshop “Echoes”
  • Stamps – Penny Black “Flourish Birthday” and Impression Obsession “C-A-C Gradation”
  • Pearls – KaiserCraft – Chino and White pearls
  • Distress Inks – Ranger – Brushed Corduroy and Tattered Rose
  • Embossing Powder – Stampendous – Detail White

Another stenciled card, using a white embossed greeting as a sort of resist. I’ve applied Distress Inks with a foam applicator through the stencil and then stamped over it with a subtle background image. This is a very simple, one layer card with a few pearls to dress it up. I was inspired by Day Two of the Stenciled class over at Online Card Classes. I have more stenciling experiments in the works! Thanks for stopping by.

Wishing… with colored pencils

occ-stencil-day2-pencil

  • Stencil – Hero Arts “Borders”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Square Sayings”
  • Border punch – Fiskars “Upper Crest”
  • Cardstock – Neenah Solar White, Bazzill
  • Colored pencils – Staedtler
  • Prismacolor colored pencil – white

I created this card based on Day Two lessons on Online Card Classes Stenciled class. I used colored pencils with a stencil and then continued to smear the coloring in the same direction as my coloring with an eraser. I then took a white Prismacolor pencil and colored through the stenciled images with vertical strokes. This gives the impression of the objects falling or raining down. Thanks for stopping by.

Miss you all the time: Stenciled – Day One

occ-stencil-day1-embossing

  • Stencil – Tim Holtz Collection – Stamper’s Anonymous “Clockwork”
  • Stamp – Hero Arts OWH Set “You’re Always in my Heart”
  • Patterned paper – Marion Smith Designs – “Nirvana: Photo Op”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny and Bazzill
  • Distress Ink – Ranger – Bundled Sage, Victorian Velvet  and Walnut Stain

This was the first card that I’ve made during the Online Card Classes Stenciled. This one is from a lesson during Day One. I used heat embossing and a stencil for this card, applying color with Ranger Distress inks. As usual, I’m really enjoying this class and having fun trying some new techniques. I will be adding this to my Operation Write Home box–it is always fun to use the OWH stamps from Hero Arts. Thanks for visiting.
