Daisies with Blue Background

sss-bluedaisy

  • Dies – Simon Says Stamp “Stitched Daisies” and “Thanks” (from Stamptember 2015 and 2014, respectively!)
  • Ranger Distress Inks – Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, and Chipped Sapphire
  • White Heavyweight Vellum – Paper Accents
  • Cardstock – Bazzill Dotted Swiss – Deep Blue and Paper Accents – Blue Odyssey
  • Punch – Marvy 1″ circle

I started out by creating a background for this card. I decided I would work with blues so I could participate in the current Addicted to CAS challenge #71: Code Word Blue. I used the “ink smooshing” technique I first learned from Kristina Werner, with Ranger Distress inks. I wanted to get some good contrast of tone and value as I smooshed the ink around. I die cut the daisies from heavyweight vellum to show off the “stitching” that is embossed on the petals. I wanted to showcase the daisies a bit more, so I added small punched white circles behind each and then repeated the circles in vellum to accent the sentiment. This isolated them from the busy background a little bit. I also applied a little Chipped Sapphire ink to the sentiment so that it stood out just a little bit more. I adhered the piece to a top-folding card and finished it all off with some Wink of Stella sparkle on the daisies. Thanks for visiting.

Thank You in Three Pastels

sssflickr-26-thankyou

  • Dies – Simon Says Stamp – “Stitched Rectangles” and “Frames” (two die cuts from this set)
  • Stencil – Simon Says Stamp – “Circle Dots”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp (designed by Hero Arts) – “Brave (OWH)”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill (white) and BoBunny “Passion Fruit Dot”
  • Inks – Ranger Distress Inks – Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar, and Shaded Lilac; Hero Arts Ombre pad – Pink to Red (used on sentiment)
  • Bling – Hero Arts and Mark Richards

I created this card for two Simon Says Stamp (SSS) challenges. The Simon Says Stamp Flickr Challenge #26 is to create a card using pastel colors. The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is to create a project featuring three colors. So I made a card that has three pastel colors and lots of polka dots. I created the background by applying Spun Sugar and Shaded Lilac Distress inks through the SSS stencil. I then blended Tumbled Glass ink onto cardstock and die cut it for the sentiment. Three gemstones were attached to three of the background dots for just a little sparkle. I layered all of the elements onto polka dot-covered cardstock to tie it all together. Thanks for stopping by.

Paper Players Sketch #259 – Thanks

pp-259-thanks

  • Stamp – Elizabeth Borer (free stamp with Craft Stamper magazine – July 2015 issue)
  • Dies –
    • Simon Says Stamp “Thanks” from Stamptember 2013
    • My Favorite Things “Four Corners”
    • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Patterned papers – K & Co. “Pink Circle Diamonds Flat Paper” (paper that the flower is stamped on) and My Mind’s Eye “Remarkable” 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Metallic gold paper
  • Gelatos – Faber Castell

I used the current Paper Players Sketch, #259, when I created this card. The larger die-cut circle is colored with a blend of Gelatos and those colors are repeated throughout the other elements. Thanks for visiting today.

White on White with a Touch of Blue

SSSwhiteonwhite

  • Dies all by Simon Says Stamp:
    • Stitched Rectangles
    • Merry Christmas
    • Melody Snowflake
    • Abby Snowflake
  • Ranger Distress Ink – Tumbled Glass
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs
  • Cardstock – Neenah Solar White

I created this card for the Simon Says Stamp Flickr Group Challenge #25: White on White with a Touch of Color. I immediately thought of Winter cards for this color scheme. I applied some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink with a foam applicator for a little contrast in the background for the snowflakes. I then added sequins and Wink of Stella sparkly ink around the snowflakes for a bit more frost. Finally, I layered the white “stitched” piece onto a white card. I really enjoyed making this card! Maybe it is because our normally mild Pacific Northwest weather was in the 90s once again today! Thanks for stopping by.

Chevron “Thanks” Card

chevron-thanks

  • Stamp – Lawn Fawn “Chevron Backdrops”
  • Die – Simon Says Stamp “Stamptember Thanks”
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs
  • Bling – Silver metal 3 mm dots
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Ink – Hero Arts “Pool to Navy Ombre” ink pad

I created this clean and simple card using the Lawn Fawn chevron stamp that is great for backgrounds and used a die cut sentiment from Simon Says Stamp. I stamped the design with Hero Arts ombre ink.  The Addicted to CAS Challenge #68 was to use chevron on a clean and simple card. The Operation Write Home (OWH) – Our Daily Bread Challenge for July is a Thank You card. And I added a little bit of sparkle and shine to this card for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog. It’s a three-fer! What fun! This might be my last OWH card. Maybe. Thanks for visiting today!

Cheers!

sss-flickr-23-cheers

  • Dies – Simon Says Stamp – “Cheers” and “Frames”
  • Patterned papers – Bella Blvd. “Color Chaos: Peep Strandz” and Pebbles “Happy Day: Puzzled”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny and Bazzill
  • Sequins – Doodlebug Designs

This is a simple card featuring die cuts and no stamping. I began by watercoloring a panel with blues and deep pinks, then die cutting a shape from it for a background to be used for the sentiment. I used two pieces from the frames die set to create the “label” on which I placed the Cheers! sentiment. I selected some papers that featured the same colors that I used in the watercolored piece and accented the card with sequins and banners. The Simon Says Stamp Flickr Group Challenge #23 is to create a project using dies. This card also fits the bill for The Paper Players Challenge #254, which is to create a clean and simple card featuring frames. Thanks for stopping by today!

Happy Birthday in Rainbow Colors

SSSflickrchallenge#22

  • Stamps – Simon Says Stamp – “Happy & Smile” set and “Baby Party Animals” set
  • Stencil – Simon Says Stamp – “Grid”
  • Ranger Distress Inks: Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Crushed Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon, and Seedless Preserves
  • Cardstock – Neenah

For the background, I applied each of the Distress Inks, one at a time, with a foam applicator through the grid stencil. I used a linear application to give it a rainbow look. I colored the animals with Copic markers. I created this card for the Simon Says Stamp Flickr Challenge #22, which is to create a card using the colors of the rainbow. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH Finishing Strong Bloghop

Welcome to my stop on the Operation Write Home (OWH) Finishing Strong Bloghop on this Memorial Day Weekend! There are a lot of cardmakers participating in the hop, so visit as many as you can and check out the great assortment of cards and talent! Click here to return back to the Hop’s home. I’ve been participating in OWH by making cards since early 2011. I’m proud to say that cardmakers have made MILLIONS of cards for our Heroes

Operation Write Home, a charity that has supported heroes with handmade cards since 2007, will be closing later this year. All cards need to be sent in by August 1st, so I’m helping to get the word out!

Here is my card for the hop:

owh-bloghop-strong

  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “OWH Brave”
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Two”
  • Patterned papers – Echo Park “For the Record 2” (blue dots) and KaiserCraft “Tropical Punch Collection: Sunny” (red)
  • Epoxy stickers – Doodlebug Designs Inc. “Sprinkles”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I used OWH Sketch # 185 as a point of departure for this card. The color scheme is red, white and blue without it being a patriotic card per se. It is a very clean and simple design. Thanks for visiting my stop on the hop and have a great weekend! To return to OWH Stars and Stamp and to the bloghop, click here.

Happy Birthday – Watercolor Background

SSS-Rickbday

  • Stamps –
    • Simon Says Stamp “Tag Sayings”
    • Simon Says Stamp “Square Sayings”
    • Avery Elle “Petals & Stems”
  • Die – Simon Says Stamp “Medium Tags”
  • Rhinestones – KaiserCraft – Dark Green
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and Paper Accents
  • Watercolor paper – Strathmore
  • Twine – Little B

For this card I created a watercolor background and stamped over it with silhouette-style floral stamps. I used stamps from several different stamp sets to put this altogether. I always find mixing-up stamp sets to be fun. The current challenge (Challenge #16) for the Simon Says Stamp Flickr Group is to use watercoloring on your card or project. Here you’ve got my entry. Thanks for visiting.

Bunny Hugs

  • Stamps –
    • We R Memory Keepers – “Bunny”
    • Memory Box – “Spiral Flower”
    • Lawn Fawn – “Milo’s ABCs” (spelling out “Bunny Hugs”)
  • Dies – Simon Says Stamp “Frames”
  • Patterned paper – Doodlebug Designs “Easter Parade”
  • Glitter Button – American Crafts
  • Copic markers
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and Paper Accents
  • Twine – Doodlebug Designs

Here is an Easter card, complete with a bunny and eggs! Challenge #15 at Simon Says Stamp Flickr Group is to make an Easter or Spring card this time around. I was inspired by Mojo Monday Sketch #390. I added some little touches of color with Copic markers to the stamped bunny and created the sentiment with my Lawn Fawn alphabet stamp set (Milo’s ABCs). Both of the dies I used are from a Simon Says Stamp set (Frames). I heat embossed the little Memory Box flower stamp and then attached a sparkly button on top for a handmade embellishment. The papers feature lots of Springtime colors. Thanks for visiting by today.
