OWH – Bonus Sketch – Celebrate!

  • Stamp – Penny Black “Sweet Wishes”
  • Patterned paper – Doodlebug Designs “Colorwheel”
  • Die cut made from Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Banner made from Heidi Swapp “Color Magic: Banner Delights” and Colorbox Chalk inks
  • Twine – Doodlebug Designs “Doodle Twine: Tangerine”

This sketch was one of many featured in the My Country/Mit Land Blog Hop at OWH Stars and Stamps. This particular design was beautifully illustrated at Dixie’s Blog, “What’s Next?”  You can find the sketch there, too. I tried something new with the banner on this one. I used the new (to me, anyway) product from Heidi Swapp that is pre-cut and is all white (with a texture applied). I added color with Colorbox Chalk inks. It is pretty nice to be able to customize these depending on you color scheme. Thanks for visiting today!

Clean and Simple Sketch #194: Butterfly

  • Butterfly die cut – SEI “Field Notes: The Sample Box”
  • Stamp – from Stampin’ Up “Sincere Salutations” set
  • Patterned paper – from SEI “Bright Blossom” collection
  • Border punch – EK Success “Diamond Lace” edger
  • Cardstock – DCWV Solid Glitter Yellow and Bazzill Basics

I’m going through a butterfly phase here! This isn’t the last one either–another butterfly card is in the works! I really liked this sketch from Clean and Simple Stamping: Sketch #194. I enjoyed looking at the sketch and putting the pieces together to fit it. This card is in the mail to a magician friend who is under the weather. We hope it cheers Tom up. Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy Birthday – Button Flowers

  • Patterned papers – SEI “Bright Blossoms” pad
  • Buttons – The Cats Pajamas “Great Outdoors Buttons”
  • Die – Spellbinders Shapeabilities “Blossom Tags and Accents”
  • Stamp – from The Cat’s Pajamas “Smells Like Cake” set

This card was totally CASED* from the Stamper’s Sampler cover (Jun/Jul/Aug 2012 issue). I made a couple of variations, but was definitely inspired by it! When I shared my copy of the magazine with one of Trenton’s teachers on our recent field trip, she admired it. I joked that her birthday was coming up, so I’d keep it in mind! Wonder if she’ll recognize it? The paper I used that is framing the images has some copper foil, which you can sort of see in the photo (upper left), making some of the flowers shine nicely. I just drew the stems and leaves below the buttons for the flowers with Ranger Distress markers. I cut the die cut in half to emulate the sun. Enjoy your day and please visit again soon.

OWH – Our Daily Bread Designs June Challenge

  • Die cuts made with:
  •      Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Twenty”
  •      Memory Box “Darla Butterfly” and “Vivienne Butterfly”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny patterned cardstock and Bazzill solid and textured cardstock

For finishing touches, I drew dotted line around the perimeter of the navy blue layer. The two butterfly die cuts, made with dies from Memory Box, fit together. I used the more detailed die cut as the top layer that looks like it is resting on the card and preparing to fly away.

This was an unusual stretch for me. The challenge was to make a non-standard, shaped card: one that isn’t a rectangle or square. I used die cuts for almost all aspects of this card, which I ended up really liking! For every 25 cards made for this challenge over at OWH, Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) will pay for shipping of one box of cards to the troops. This is a huge help to OWH, as shipping can really add up. The OWH – ODBD June challenge continues through the end of the month. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH – Midweek Throwdown: Thank You with Bonus Sketch

  • Stamp – Stampin’ Up “Elegant Thank You”
  • Patterned papers – BoBunny “Enchanted”
  • Die cuts made with Spellbineders Nestabilities “Fleur de Lis Rctangles”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I used the OWH bonus sketch that was presented along with Sketch #123 this week. Lots of flourishes here, with the papers, die cuts and stamp! As it turned out, it was perfect for the OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge for thank you cards. The troops always request lots of thank you cards to send home, so this challenge will hopefully inspire folks to make a good amount to ship out. Thanks for stopping by!

Card Patterns Sketch #165

  • Digital image – Odds and Soxlets (provided by CDAC Progressive Challenges)
  • Patterned cardstock – BoBunny Back to Basics
  • Border punch – Stampin’ Up “Scallop Edge”
  • Die cuts  made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Deckled Rectangles Large”
  • Ribbon – American Crafts
  • Flower – Hero Arts with an EK Success sticker in the center

I used Card Patterns Sketch #165 as inspiration to design this card. The digital stamp came to me by way of the Crafters Digital Art Center’s Progressive Freebie Challenge. I colored it with Copic markers with bright and pastel colors. Thanks for visiting today. It is such a busy time right now, my posts have been few and far between!

What’s the word, Bird?

  • Stamp – Inkdadinkado “The Aviary Assortment”
  • Edger punch – EK Success “Dotted Scallop”
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Victoria”
  • Die cuts made from Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Fifteen”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and WorldWin

I made this background by following a tutorial at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps: Scrappy Backgrounds Tutorial. It is a good way to use up scraps of cardstock since it is made up of thin strips of paper. The texture added by running it through an embossing folder makes it a really rich background. This is my first one, so hopefully my next one will be a little more polished, but it was fun and a different kind of background for me. Special thanks to Cara who put the tutorial together! Thanks for visiting today.

OWH – Using Scraps – “You’re the Best”

  • Die cut – SEI “Field Notes: The Sample Box”
  • Stamp – Hero Arts “Everyday Sayings”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny dots (scraps!)
  • Trim from stash

This was a very simple card that I made from some of my many scrap pieces of cardstock and a few little extras! Over at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps, we are challenging ourselves to use up some of our extra scraps and put them to good use on cards. There is a OWH tutorial to give you a little direction along these lines as well! So let this be a challenge to you: go forth and use up some of those precious scraps! I will post more cards using up left-overs here as well. Thanks for stopping by today!

Card Patterns and Crafter’s Digital Art Center – Enjoy Today

  • Digital Stamp – TLC creations
  • Sentiment stamp – Penny Black “”Sweet Wishes”
  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Mary Mary Happy Birthday” (both sides)
  • Die cut – made from Spellbinder’s Nestabililities “Lacey Circles”
  • Button Candy Dots – Pebbles, Inc.

I used the Card Patterns Sketch #161 for this card, which features one of the bear images from the latest challenge. I used an image from the current Progressive Freebies Challenge at Crafter’s Digital Art Center. This is a festive birthday card that I’ll forward on for Operation Write Home soon. Thanks for visiting today.

Card Patterns Sketch #160 – Happy Birthday

  • Stamps – Cat’s Pajamas “Away We Go” clear set and Hero Arts “Year Round Sentiments” clear set
  • Patterned paper – Die Cuts with a View “Dragonfly Flower”
  • Die cut made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Nine”
  • Flowers – Prima
  • Pearls – KaiserCraft
  • Glitter dots – Mark Richards

This is a sparkly birthday card for my great niece. I am getting it to her late, but it has a bunny on it in time for Easter! I used the current card sketch at Card Patterns this week: Sketch #160. I’ve had the image colored for quite some time with Copic markers, but just didn’t find the right combination of papers and sketch for it. I like having the contrasting lights and darks with such busy paper. The sentiment is heat embossed with white embossing powder so that it stands out. And there is a lot of sparkle for a six year old! Thanks for visiting today and Happy Easter!
