Operation Write Home Sketch #160 – Thinking of You

owh-sketch160

  • Image stamp – Magenta “Musical Bird Collage”
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts a’Everyday Sayings”
  • Patterned papers – Heidi Grace Designs “Only Time” Collection: “Mini Floral” and London Eye”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This is a pretty stamp that I’ve had for a while, but not used in a while. When my husband saw it, he identified the bird as a meadowlark, which is Oregon’s state bird. So that is a little unsolicited trivia for you! I used OWH Sketch #160 for the card layout and inked the edges of the pieces to tie it altogether. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party – Chevron Challenge

OWH-PresVCMP-#1

  • Stamp – Stampendous “Flower Fields”
  • Die cuts – made with Spellbinder’s Nestabilities “Labels One”
  • Patterned papers – Basic Grey “PBJ” collection – “Hip Fab” and “Picnic Basket”
  • Bling – Queen and Company “Twinkle Goosebumps”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Embossing powder
  • Ranger Distress Ink markers

I made this card for the OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party that is in progress for the President’s Day weekend. The first challenge over at Scrappin’ Intervention, is the make a card featuring a chevron pattern. I had a number of choices in my stash, but this Basic Grey paper caught my eye. I heat embossed the image with black embossing powder and then used a waterbrush and my Distress markers to color the flowers and leaves. Thanks for visiting today.

President’s Day VCMP – Things With Wings

PresDayvcmp1-300x109

I hope you’re enjoying the Operation Write Home President’s Day Weekend Virtual Cardmaking Party (VCMP). Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create a card featuring something with wings! There are lots of possibilities there! Please make a card featuring Things with Wings and post it in the InLinkz below!

Now for my offerings:

owh-presVCMP-wings

  • Stamp – Inkadinkado “Sleepy Owl”
  • Die cuts – made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Fifteen”
  • Patterned paper – KaiserCraft “Hunt and Gather” paper pad
  • Baker’s Twine – Doodlebug Design Inc. – Tangerine
  • Gems – Darice – Earth tones
  • Ranger Distress Ink – Dried Marigold, Dried Sage, Scattered Straw, Walnut Stain
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and BoBunny
  • Kraft paper

This card features an owl-y thing with wings! I added color to the edges of the image and the patterned paper with Distress Inks. I kind of made this sketch up, but I’m sure it is similar to many others! The card features baker’s twine and the sparkle of some “gems” for a little visual interest and that’s it!

And another, that includes a little science experiment!

craft-stamper-labels

  • Stamps – Hero Arts “Sweet Butterflies”
  • Avery mailing label
  • Patterned paper – Basic Grey “Little Black Dress” collection
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Black embossing powder
  • Edger punch – Martha Stewart “Garden Rail”

I used a technique I learned in the January issue of Craft Stamper magazine for this card. Basically, you take a mailing label, peel off the backing, apply embossing powder on the sticky side and heat emboss. It makes an interesting, crackle background. It is a quick and easy technique that is pretty unexpected. Then I cut out the butterfly images that I stamped and colored with Ranger Distress markers. I put all the pieces together and had a card! Thanks for visiting today! Enjoy the party! This link will get you back to the VCMP’s master thread.

Candy!

And if you’d like to try for a little blog candy, please leave a comment and a random winner will be selected on Tuesday! You could win these stamps to help you create more Things with Wings!

Washi Tape Butterfly Birthday – Clean & Simple 2

c&s2-day9-butterfly-bday

  • Washi tape – Queen & Co. and We R Memory Keepers
  • Die cut – made with Spellbinder’s Shapeabilities “Butterflies” (embossed areas colored with ColorBox Fluid Chalk inks)
  • Stamp – Rubber Soul
  • Ink – Tsukineko Delicata “Golden Glitz” ink pad
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I made the background for this card with rows of Washi tape, which was a part of one of my lessons in the Clean & Simple 2 class I’m finishing up at Online Card Classes. The effect it creates looks like patterned paper. I popped up the die cut butterfly with dimensional adhesive, after coloring the embossed areas with chalk ink and a sponge dauber. A very simple, yet cheery, card! Thanks for visiting today.

Doodles + Clean & Simple = Happy Birthday!

c&s2-day7-bday

  • Die cut – made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Fifteen”
  • Borders stamps – Lawn Fawn “Chevron Backdrops” and “Belinda’s Borders”
  • Sentiment stamp – Inkadinkado “Happy Birthday”

I was inspired during my Clean and Simple 2 class, provided by Online Card Classes. I used the lesson as a point of departure and created a one layer card masking an area and using various border stamps to fill it in with different patterns. Then I stamped the sentiment and added doodles around the edges of the shape and in various spots in the pattern for a casual feeling. Thanks for visiting today!

Happy Birthday Flowers – Clean & Simple 2 Day 5

c&s2-day5-bday-flowers

  • Flower stamp – Hero Arts “Outline Flowers”
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts “Whimsical Happy Birthday”
  • Ranger Distress Markers
  • Crystal Stickers – Mark Richards Enterprises – Clear Round 2mm
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Kraft card base – Paper Accents
  • Stampendous Detail White embossing powder

I made this card based on a lesson in the Clean and Simple 2 class I’m taking. I stamped the background in VersaMark and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I chose a few flowers to color with Distress Markers. I also heat embossed the sentiment and popped it up on a banner at the top of the card. I added a little bling for the flower centers of the smaller flowers and that’s it! This will be nice to add to my Operation Write Home box. This week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown is for birthday cards, since there is a little shortage of birthday cards to send over to the troops. Thanks for stopping by today.

Clean & Simple 2 – Day 3 – Labels

c&s2-day3-labels

  • Background stamp – Penny Black “Damask”
  • Butterfly stamp and die – Hampton Art Stamps and Spellbinders “Butterflies”
  • Pearls – Queen and Company and Kaiser Craft
  • Patterned paper – SEI “Field Notes”
  • Inks – Ranger Adirondak Lights “Cloudy Blue” and Distress Inks and markers in Peeled Paint, Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, Mulled Lavendar, and Dusty Concord

I was inspired to create this card based on the Clean and Simple 2 class I’m currently taking on Online Card Classes. The instructor for this technique was Shari Carroll. I created the background using shipping labels stamped with my background stamp, cut-up, and then off-set. I colored the butterfly stamped image with Distress markers and edged with Distress ink. More Distress ink was added to the background with the pearls. This was a very fun technique to try and the Penny Black stamp is really beautiful. Thanks for stopping by.

Friends – Clean & Simple 2 – Day #1

c&s2-day1-friends

  • Sentiment stamp – from Hero Arts “Live Life” set
  • Border stamp – Lawn Fawn “Belinda’s Borders”
  • Stencil – Studio Calico “Chevron” Huey’s Mask

This is the first card I made for the Clean and Simple 2 class offered at Online Card Classes. I misted the cardstock with a homemade ink solution I made with Distress re-inkers. I decided to accent the card with a border that repeated the chevron design of the stencil. I heat embossed the border with white embossing powder. I drew a dashed line across the bottom of the top portion. The top and bottom chevron portions are popped up with dimensional adhesive. This was a very fun, clean and simple card to make! I’ve taken a number of classes from Online Card Classes and I would highly recommend them. They provide a ton of inspiration, techniques and instruction. Thanks for visiting today.

Little Red Riding Hood – Analogous Color Scheme

owh-designbootcamp-analogous

  • Stamp set – Darcie’s – “Little Red” (JCS145)
  • Die cuts made from Spellbinders Nestabilities: “Labels Two,” “Standard Circles Large,” and “Lacey Circles”

This card was mostly about coloring and fussy cutting! This past week, OWH Stars and Stamps began a new feature called OWH Design Boot Camp. Color theory was in this lesson and we were to choose a color scheme based on one of the basic harmonies. I chose an analogous color scheme, using yellow orange/orange/red, which are three in a row on the 12-part color wheel. These are not necessarily colors I would choose to put together, but it fit the Red Riding Hood set I recently acquired at an LSS sale! After I colored them with Copic markers, I cut out the images and popped-up Red Riding Hood and her basket with a little dimensional adhesive. My wolf looks more like a fox–but he’s cute! I just kind of rewrote the fairy tale a little bit and she had a pet fox! Thanks for visiting today.

OWH – Midweek Throwdown for Easter Cards: Peep!

owh-mwt-easter

  • Stamps – We R Memory Keepers “Peep” set
  • Die cuts – made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Nested Oval Medallion Labels”
  • Paper Lace Ribbon – Creative Imaginations
  • Corner punch – Fiskars
  • Pastel Flower Bling – Creative Impressions
  • Cardstock – Dots – BoBunny
  • Cardstock – Solid – Bazzill

I’m mailing out a shipment of cards to Operation Write Home (OWH) today. The OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge this week is a call for Easter cards. So I stamped this little chick and surrounded it with pastel cardstock and a little bling. It has been so cold that it was fun to create something a little bit Spring-y. Thanks for visiting today!
