OWH VCMP Challenge – Dancing Mouse

owh-dancingmouse

  • Stamps –

            Hanko Designs (Kodomo) “Dancing Mouse”

Hero Arts – “Messages with Flourish”

            Mama Elephant – “Modern Borders”

  • Die – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Fleur de Lis Rectangles”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny and Bazzill

I created this card for the OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party that started on July 4th.  I’m a little slow getting it posted, but I think many of us hosting are happy with folks continuing to create cards for this event. This challenge from Beth at Bunny Scrap was to create a card with a colorful background created with ink, paint, or an assortment of patterned papers. I decided to make my background with ink. I used a border stamp from Mama Elephant and repeated it with two different ink colors to make a pattern. This little mouse is one that I’ve had for quite a while and I don’t think he is available any longer. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH VCMP – Critter Love Card Challenge

Your challenge and my challenge

Welcome to another challenge for the Operation Write Home Virtual Cardmaking Party! I am very pleased and honored to have been selected to participate this weekend. There are a lot of fun challenges to motivate us all to create cards for our Heros to send home. For my challenge, I’m asking you to make a love-themed card featuring a furry creature. There are so many cute animal stamps–many are in my stash! So I thought it would be fun to devote a challenge to using some of these critters! Feel up to the challenge? Please use the InLinkz Linkup below to add your critter love card. For every card linked up for this furry creature challenge between now and the end of next weekend, I will donate $1.00 (per person) to Operation Write Home. So if there are 50 folks who post, that means I’ll donate $50 to OWH. You have until midnight Pacific Time on July 13th to add your cards.

UPDATE:

I received 33 entries in my challenge as of midnight Sunday, July 13th. That means that I will donate $33.00 to Operation Write Home when I send my next group of cards in during the next couple of weeks! What is even better, is that my friends Barb and Cora Jean have said they will match this donation so that makes $99.00 altogether (actually, I’ll make it $34 so it adds up to an even $100.00)! I’m very proud of this contribution to OWH. Thanks to all of you who created cards and linked them up for the VCMP so that we could make this happen.

Now for my cards

owh-vcmp-readingkitty

  • Stamps –

Stampendous ” Cattus Librum”
Lawn Fawn “Belinda’s Borders”
Hero Arts “Year Round Sentiments”

  • Patterned Papers – Basic Grey “Hey You” collection
  • Colorbox Chalk ink – Aquamarine

My first card is based on OWH Sketch #191. It featured the cutest cat stamp ever, in my opinion! I stamped the accents and inked the edges with aquamarine chalk ink to tie the various elements together. Finally, I drew an outline around each element with a fine tipped dark green pen. Between the inking and the outline, it has a very informal look.

  • Stamps – Art Impressions “Furries Try Folds” and BoBunny “Love Letters”
  • Patterned papers – Crate Paper “Flea Market” 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Cardstock – Paper Accents
  • Punch – Martha Stewart “Embossed Button”
  • Twine – American Crafts

This is a simple card that featured two stamped images. Between the two cards I’ve posted today, I’ve used cards from five different companies! It is fun to mix them up! I colored these cute little bunnies with Copic markers and made banners from some pretty patterned papers. The paper button is nice a flat so it won’t be too thick for mailing, which is important for OWH cards. I made this design up as I went, so I don’t think it matches up to a specific sketch (at least not on purpose).

Thanks for joining in the party and stopping by today. Please link your card using the InLinkz Link-up below. I’d love to see lots of cards so I can make a big donation when I send my next batch of cards in! Please leave a comment if you feel so disposed. If you’d like to return to the OWH VCMP Master List, please click the OWH graphic at the top of this post.

OWH Sketch #230 – Hello

owh-sketch230

  • Stamp – Hero Arts Operation Write Home set “Li’l Hoot”
  • Dies – Technique Tuesday “Say it – Hello” and Spellbinders Nestabilities ‘Standard Circles Large”
  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Up & Away” collection
  • Cardstock – Paper Accents and BoBunny

This was a fun card to make. I used the current sketch at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps: OWH Sketch #230. I colored the bears with watercolor pencils and blended with a water brush. I liked using the bright colors with this sketch to make a card that would be good for a kid of any age! Thanks for visiting.

Kitty in pink and grey

  • Image – Digital image by Sandy Allnock for Operation Write Home
  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Happy Day”
  • Dies – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Classic Ovals” and “Lacey Ovals”
  • Flower – Petaloo “Mini Daisies-Grey/Black”
  • Paper String – Tim Holtz Idea-ology
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I created this card using inspiration from the current sketch at Mojo Monday Sketch # 347.  I used a pink and grey color palette, which is the current Midweek Throwdown Challenge at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps. I colored the image with Copic markers. Thanks for stopping by today.

OWH Sketch #226 – Skunkified

owh-sketch-226-skunk

  • Stamps – Lawn Fawn “Into the Woods”
  • Patterned paper – Basic Grey “Porcelain” 6″ paper pad
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Woodgrain”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Black Prismacolor pencil

I created this image for a demo I did for a small group I belong to. We have our own “book club” using Craft Stamper Magazine, and meet monthly to share projects we’ve made from the current month’s issue. This stamp is meant to be a chipmunk, but this project “skunkified” the chipmunk and gave it a whole new look! I used colored pencil to fill in the black spaces and add a stripe down his head. The sketch is the current one at Operation Write Home (OWH) Stars and Stamps, Sketch #226. I created a wood-look background with the embossing folder to make the skunk feel more at home. Thanks for visiting.

Nuts About You – FMS #125

nutsaboutyou

  • Digital image – Doodle Pantry “Nutty for You”
  • Stamps – Stampendous “Tiny Acorns” and Simon Says Stamp “Giving Thanks”
  • Patterned paper – Doodlebug Designs Kraft in Color 6 X 6″ pad
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

It was fun to create this card using Sketch #125 at Freshly Made Sketches. I must admit though, such a simple sketch almost made designing it more difficult! I got to use a squirrel image, which is always a plus! I colored this guy from Doodle Pantry with Copic markers, along with the little acorn stamped images. After fussy cutting them, I popped-up both the squirrel and the acorns with a little bit of dimensional adhesive. It will be a great OWH card for a child. Thanks for visiting today.

My Squirrely Valentine

  • Die – Memory Box “Secret Squirrel”
  • Die – Memory Box “Mini Heart Collection”
  • Die – Simon Says Stamp “Medium Tags”
  • Die – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Tag Sayings”
  • Patterned paper – SEI “With All My Heart”
  • Pearls – KaiserCraft
  • Heart Rain Dots – Cloud 9 Design
  • Paper String – Tim Holtz Idea-ology
  • Glitter pen – Sakura Gelly Roll – Clear Star
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

It is always good to incorporate a squirrel into any card! This Valentine is for my son, who is rather fond of these furry creatures. This design, which I made up as I went, is pretty fun with some of the elements extending over the edge of the card base. CAS-ual Friday Challenge #127 this week is to do just that. It also is a perfect card for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Have a Heart. I pulled a number of different supplies out of my stash for this. There was glitter and shine in the paper, stickers, and faux stitching that I drew around the edges with glitter pen. The only thing that I hadn’t used before was the patterned paper and the squirrel die. Since I was pretty much snowed-in, I had to use my stash, right? So I guess this is appropriate to post for the Shopping Our Stash Challenge #137: Love Me Tender. Thanks for visiting today.

Hedgehog Love

  • Stamps – from Penny Black “Loads of Love” set and Simon Says Stamp “Tag Sayings”
  • Patterned papers – Echo Park “Yours Truly” and American Crafts “Smitten”
  • Die – Spellbinders/Just Rite “Nested Oval Medallion Labels”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

Here is another late-to-my-blog card–it is already on the way to OWH! And it is another kids’ love card for the OWH Midweek Throwdown from two weeks ago. I really enjoy making kids cards and I know it must be fun for our heroes to send cards home to their kids and young friends and relatives. I colored this hedgehog stamped image with Copic markers and layered it up with some nice contrasting colors. Thanks for stopping by.

Squirrely! Squirrely! Shake your bushy tail!

squirrely-onegreatkid

  • Digital image – Bugaboo Digi Stamps “Squirrel”
  • Stamp – Simon Says Stamp “Tag Sayings”
  • Die – Memory Box “Nutty Acorn”
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Woodgrain”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and BoBunny

Squirrely! Squirrely! Shake your bushy tail! So this is a camp song that my son taught me. He’s pretty crazy for squirrels. This past summer, his first as a counselor, he chose his camp name to be “Chipmunk.” I colored this image with Copic markers and created a nice woodgrain textured background. The Memory Box acorn just seemed like a natural accessory for Squirrely. I created this card for my latest Operation Write Home (OWH) boxes, and I’m a little late (read: a LOT late!), but this is a card fitting for the OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge from the week before last: Love Cards for Kids. Thanks for visiting.

OWH Sketch #205 – Hello!

owh-sketch-205

  • Stamps – from Lawn Fawn “Into the Woods” set
  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Happy Day”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I created this cheery card with Sketch #205 at Operation Write Home (OWH) Stars & Stamps. This would be a nice card for a child to receive from a hero, with the cute animal and bright colors! I still haven’t figured out if this is a raccoon, skunk or maybe a chipmunk! I’m thinking chipmunk! Any help there would be appreciated! Thanks for stopping by today.
