My Top Ten Cards for 2012

topten2012

Here is a quick look back at some of my favorite cards that I made in the last year. If you’d like to see my “recipes” for individual cards, the heading for each is a link back to the original post on my blog. Here’s my countdown:

#10 – OWH Die Cuts Challenge

owh-diecut-1

I made this for a sample card to be used for the Midweek Throwdown challenge in February, which was to use die cuts.

#9 – Clean and Simple – Newspaper Tulips

clean&simple-day5-2

I made this card while taking the Online Card Classes “Clean and Simple” class. I love this Basic Grey paper and the Hero Arts stamp!

#8 – It’s a Party!

owh-itsaparty-vcmp#5

Fluffles (from Stampendous) on a cupcake with lots of stripes.

#7 – Creative Chemistry 101 Tags

creativechem-day3-2tags

I took another class at Online Classes featuring Tim Holtz called Creative Chemistry 101. I learned lots of techniques and played with a lot of Ranger products–distressing all the way!

#6 – The famous Origami Neckties

origami-tie-fathersday-1

This cracks me up–I’ve made these for the last two years (since the tutorial on OWH Stars and Stamps showed me how) so our heroes have them to send home for Father’s Day. And all year round, these cards get hits on my blog! I team up with my son, who makes all of ties since he is an Origami expert. I make the shirts and then I put them together. They seem to be a hit in blogland, so I hope they are a hit with our heroes and their families.

#5 – Paper Piecing Hot Air Balloon

owh-rebel-paperpiecing

I made this card during the OWH Rebel with a Cause Virtual Cardmaking Party this past Spring. This particular challenge was for paper piecing, so I chose a Verve hot air balloon stamp. I created a background with an Inky Antics cloud template and stipple brush to make lots of clouds.

#4 – What’s the Word, Bird?

owh-scrappybackground

This was another popular card this year. Someone visits this card at least once a week! I really like this technique, which I learned from one of the OWH Tuesday Tutorials. It is a great way to use up scraps. I love the colors and texture from the embossing folder.

#3 – OWH Memorial Weekend Bloghop – Penguin Birthday

penguin-bday-membloghop-1

This was a fun card for a child’s birthday. I made it for my stop in the OWH Memorial Weekend Blog Hop. We each chose an OWH sketch to illustrate along the hop. I like the cheerful penguin and all of the polka dots.

#2 – ODBD June Challenge – Nonstandard Shaped Cards

owh-odbc-June2012

This was a pretty unusual card for me. I used layers of die cuts made from one of my Spellbinders Nestabilties sets and then layered butterfly die cuts on top (the butterfly dies are from Memory Box). It’s unique shape made it pretty eye catching.

#1 – Crocus Anniversary Card

owh-mwt-crocus-anniversary

I made this card for an OWH Midweek Throwdown for which we were asked to make anniversary cards. I love purple and green together and the design, together with the image, made for a pretty elegant card.

That’s it! Happy 2013, everyone and thanks for stopping by.

Happy New Year – Penguin Style

fresh_66_365_day_306

  • Stamps – Cat’s Pajamas “Make Merry” set
  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Stomp: Best Buddies” (green) and K.I. Memories “Flourish” (black with dots)
  • Edger punch – EK Success “Argyle”

365 Cards – Day 302 – Happy New Year

365-Day302-Blended

  • Stamp – Judikins “Happy New Year”
  • Stencil – Crafter’s Workshop 6 X 6″ Template “Winter Wonderland”
  • Die cut – made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Twenty Eight”
  • Ribbon – American Crafts
  • Pearl pen – Viva Decor Silver
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Kraft cardstock
  • Ranger Distress Inks

The challenge at 365 Cards for Day 302 is Blending color. I chose to blend Distress inks with a snowflake stencil from Crafter’s Workshop. I drew out a little of the white found in the negative space (the snowflake background) with white ribbon and made three accents with the silver pearl pen for some sparkle. Thanks for dropping by today.

OWH Sketch #152 – Kitty Phone Call

owh-sketch-152

  • Stamp – from Penny Black “Loads of Love” set
  • Die cuts – made from Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large” and “Big Scalloped Circles Large”
  • Patterned paper – Making Memories “Heart Floral Love Struck”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Black Pearl Pen – Viva Decor

I present to you a cheery card for a hero to send home with lots of love. The design comes from OWH Stars and Stamps Sketch #152. I colored the stamped image with Copic markers and added accents with black pearl pen to pull the whole design together. Thanks for stopping by today.

Clean & Simple Sketch #221 – OWH Missing You

c&s-221-OWH-MissingYou

  • Stamp – Autumn Leaves “Flower Swirls”
  • Sentiment stamp – from Hero Arts “OWH Right at Home” set
  • Patterned paper – Basic Grey “Lime Rickey” 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Distress Ink – Ranger “Wild Honey”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

I was inspired by sketch #221 at Clean and Simple Stamping for this card. The theme for the Midweek Throwdown challenge at Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps this week is Miss You. So I put the two challenges together and made this card. It features the stamped flowers colored with Copic markers. I applied Distress Ink in Wild Honey to the edges of the individual layers. Thanks for visiting!

Freshly Made Sketches #65 – Snowflake Christmas

freshly_made_65

  • Die cuts – Made from Spellbinders Poseabilities collection: “Snowflake Wonder” (four layered together)
  • Stamp – Rubber Soul “Holiday Whimsical”
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Snowflakes”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny
  • Brad – Creative Impressions

This was a fun card to make by layering all of the die cuts together to make a snowflake and fastening them with a frosted brad. I layered the embossed snowflake paper on top of the dots to make it even more Wintry. I was inspired by the current challenge at Freshly Made Sketches: #65. Thanks for stopping by.

Snowman and Snowflakes

SnowmanChristmas

  • Stamp – Rubber Soul “Holiday Whimsical” set
  • Die cuts made from Spellbinders Just Rite Custom Dies – Nested Oval Medallion Labels
  • Edger punch – Dotted Wave
  • Patterned paper – Heidi Grace Designs “Shimmer Glimmer Paper – Frost Blvd.”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • May Arts Silver Snowflakes

This wintry card features a snowman and snowflakes. It is a cheery little card we’ll use to send holiday greetings. Thanks for visiting. I hope to get more time for creating soon!

Unscripted Sketches #187 – Stocking Mouse

unscripted-187

  • Stamps – Penny Black “Xmas Mouse” and “Christmas Cheer”
  • Die cuts made from Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Four” and “Labels Seventeen”
  • Border punch – EK Success “Abstract Flower Edger”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and BoBunny

I colored this cute little Christmas mouse with Copic markers and popped him up for a little dimension. I used bright green for accents, including edging the card and sentiment with green ink. The card was created using the current card sketch at Unscripted Sketches #187. Thanks for stopping by today.

Unscripted Sketches #186 – Hearts

Unscripted_186_Hearts

  • Stamps – Stampendous “Scroll Heart” and Hero Arts “Live Life”
  • Paper garland – Flutterbys by American Craft
  • Distress Inks – Ranger
  • Cardstock – BoBunny

This is a really simple take on Sketch #186 at Unscripted Sketches. I’ve been wanting to use this American Crafts heart garland on a card, and this sketch fit the bill. I created a background with Distress Inks in the pinks and browns to match the stamped images. I’m making Valentines and love cards for Operation Write Home now, so the troops overseas have some nice cards to send home. Thanks for visiting!

Unscripted Sketches #185 – Iris Fold Valentine

  • Iris Folding Template – Hot off the Press
  • Iridescent papers – Cotton Candy, Ice Blue, Hot Pink
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and BoBunny
  • Sentiment and frame stamps – Darcie’s “Banner Day”
  • Corner punch – Fiskars

I used iridescent papers to create this iris fold card–It is very sparkly!  I used the sketch over at Unscripted Sketches #185 for inspiration. The piggyback challenge for this sketch is to use dry embossing–and I chose embossed paper (Bazzill dots) for a nice texture. This will be a nice Valentine for Operation Write Home–to send over to the troops for them to send home. Thanks for visiting today.
