Happy Birthday Flowers – Clean & Simple 2 Day 5

c&s2-day5-bday-flowers

  • Flower stamp – Hero Arts “Outline Flowers”
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts “Whimsical Happy Birthday”
  • Ranger Distress Markers
  • Crystal Stickers – Mark Richards Enterprises – Clear Round 2mm
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Kraft card base – Paper Accents
  • Stampendous Detail White embossing powder

I made this card based on a lesson in the Clean and Simple 2 class I’m taking. I stamped the background in VersaMark and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I chose a few flowers to color with Distress Markers. I also heat embossed the sentiment and popped it up on a banner at the top of the card. I added a little bling for the flower centers of the smaller flowers and that’s it! This will be nice to add to my Operation Write Home box. This week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown is for birthday cards, since there is a little shortage of birthday cards to send over to the troops. Thanks for stopping by today.

Little Red Riding Hood – Analogous Color Scheme

owh-designbootcamp-analogous

  • Stamp set – Darcie’s – “Little Red” (JCS145)
  • Die cuts made from Spellbinders Nestabilities: “Labels Two,” “Standard Circles Large,” and “Lacey Circles”

This card was mostly about coloring and fussy cutting! This past week, OWH Stars and Stamps began a new feature called OWH Design Boot Camp. Color theory was in this lesson and we were to choose a color scheme based on one of the basic harmonies. I chose an analogous color scheme, using yellow orange/orange/red, which are three in a row on the 12-part color wheel. These are not necessarily colors I would choose to put together, but it fit the Red Riding Hood set I recently acquired at an LSS sale! After I colored them with Copic markers, I cut out the images and popped-up Red Riding Hood and her basket with a little dimensional adhesive. My wolf looks more like a fox–but he’s cute! I just kind of rewrote the fairy tale a little bit and she had a pet fox! Thanks for visiting today.

My Top Ten Cards for 2012

topten2012

Here is a quick look back at some of my favorite cards that I made in the last year. If you’d like to see my “recipes” for individual cards, the heading for each is a link back to the original post on my blog. Here’s my countdown:

#10 – OWH Die Cuts Challenge

owh-diecut-1

I made this for a sample card to be used for the Midweek Throwdown challenge in February, which was to use die cuts.

#9 – Clean and Simple – Newspaper Tulips

clean&simple-day5-2

I made this card while taking the Online Card Classes “Clean and Simple” class. I love this Basic Grey paper and the Hero Arts stamp!

#8 – It’s a Party!

owh-itsaparty-vcmp#5

Fluffles (from Stampendous) on a cupcake with lots of stripes.

#7 – Creative Chemistry 101 Tags

creativechem-day3-2tags

I took another class at Online Classes featuring Tim Holtz called Creative Chemistry 101. I learned lots of techniques and played with a lot of Ranger products–distressing all the way!

#6 – The famous Origami Neckties

origami-tie-fathersday-1

This cracks me up–I’ve made these for the last two years (since the tutorial on OWH Stars and Stamps showed me how) so our heroes have them to send home for Father’s Day. And all year round, these cards get hits on my blog! I team up with my son, who makes all of ties since he is an Origami expert. I make the shirts and then I put them together. They seem to be a hit in blogland, so I hope they are a hit with our heroes and their families.

#5 – Paper Piecing Hot Air Balloon

owh-rebel-paperpiecing

I made this card during the OWH Rebel with a Cause Virtual Cardmaking Party this past Spring. This particular challenge was for paper piecing, so I chose a Verve hot air balloon stamp. I created a background with an Inky Antics cloud template and stipple brush to make lots of clouds.

#4 – What’s the Word, Bird?

owh-scrappybackground

This was another popular card this year. Someone visits this card at least once a week! I really like this technique, which I learned from one of the OWH Tuesday Tutorials. It is a great way to use up scraps. I love the colors and texture from the embossing folder.

#3 – OWH Memorial Weekend Bloghop – Penguin Birthday

penguin-bday-membloghop-1

This was a fun card for a child’s birthday. I made it for my stop in the OWH Memorial Weekend Blog Hop. We each chose an OWH sketch to illustrate along the hop. I like the cheerful penguin and all of the polka dots.

#2 – ODBD June Challenge – Nonstandard Shaped Cards

owh-odbc-June2012

This was a pretty unusual card for me. I used layers of die cuts made from one of my Spellbinders Nestabilties sets and then layered butterfly die cuts on top (the butterfly dies are from Memory Box). It’s unique shape made it pretty eye catching.

#1 – Crocus Anniversary Card

owh-mwt-crocus-anniversary

I made this card for an OWH Midweek Throwdown for which we were asked to make anniversary cards. I love purple and green together and the design, together with the image, made for a pretty elegant card.

That’s it! Happy 2013, everyone and thanks for stopping by.

OWH Sketch #152 – Kitty Phone Call

owh-sketch-152

  • Stamp – from Penny Black “Loads of Love” set
  • Die cuts – made from Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large” and “Big Scalloped Circles Large”
  • Patterned paper – Making Memories “Heart Floral Love Struck”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Black Pearl Pen – Viva Decor

I present to you a cheery card for a hero to send home with lots of love. The design comes from OWH Stars and Stamps Sketch #152. I colored the stamped image with Copic markers and added accents with black pearl pen to pull the whole design together. Thanks for stopping by today.

OWH Love Card with 365 Cards Polka Dots

owh-mwt-love

  • Patterned papers – KaiserCraft Secret Admirer Collection: Flirtatious and First Love
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Seventeen”
  • Memory Box White Pearls
  • Stickers – EK Success Sticko “Shimmering Hearts”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny Back to Backs: Mint Dot

The Midweek Throwdown challenge today at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps is Love and Hugs cards for our heroes. Then, over at 365 Cards, Day 278’s challenge is to create with Polka Dots. So I’ve done a combined effort with this simple card. I used the image from one sheet of KaiserCraft paper and die cut the polka dots from another sheet from the same collection. I popped up the image and accented the corners with hearts and pearls. That’s it! Didn’t use a single ink pad on this one! Have a great day and thanks for visiting.
