OWH Midweek Throwdown – Tic Tac Toe – Mother’s Day Card

owh-mwt-tictactoe-mothersday

  • Digital image – Sweet ‘N Sassy “Blue Morpho Butterfly”
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Poppy” by Anna Griffin
  • Stamp – Hero Arts “Mother’s Day Message”
  • Die cuts – Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large” and “Eyelet Circles”
  • Cardstock – BoBunny

This was a fun challenge for the Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps Midweek Throwdown this past week. We had a Tic Tac Toe game and had to choose a “row” of elements to make a card. I chose Embossing, Blue and Ribbon. I colored the image with Copic markers and mounted it on an embossed background. Then I tied it up in a bow. Thanks for stopping by.

OWH – Sketch Challenge #162

owh-sketch162-bear

  • Stamp – My Favorite Things “Fred Bear Catches Some ZZZs”
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts “Everyday Sayings”
  • Patterned papers – Basic Grey “Pyrus” and My Mind’s Eye “Citron: What a Day: Forest Paper”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Bling – Queeen & Co. Twinkle Goosebumps

Here’s a nice, sleeping bear (complete with sleeping mouse) to cheer up a card recipient. I made this card for the Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps Sketch Challenge #162, using one of my new My Favorite Things stamps that I got from a recent OWH fundraiser. I colored the image with Copic markers and made panels with some patterned papers from my stash. A very straightforward design with just a touch of bling. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH Midweek Throwdown – Recipe Mix – Birthday

owh-mwt-recipe-birthday

  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye – Indie Chic Collection – “Saffron ‘Birds’ Batik Paper” (both sides)
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts “Year Round Sentiments”
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Chuck”
  • Border punch – EK Success “Open Scallop”
  • Ribbon – May Arts
  • Cardstock – Bazzill “Sugar Daddy”

I do like to work with challenges that provide a recipe to work from! This week’s Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown challenge was to use the following recipe:

  1. Two patterned papers
  2. One embossing folder
  3. One border punch
  4. Ribbon or twine

As is typical for me, it is well past mid-week–but I’m still up for the challenge! The design is simple and linear, showing off the different textures and patterns across the card. This will be a nice birthday card for a hero to send home. Thanks for visiting!

OWH – Fruit Card Challenge

owh-odbd-fruit-pears

  • Stamp – Chapel Road Artstamps “Text Pear” set
  • Corner punch – EK Success “Laurel”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

The OWH Our Daily Bread Designs February Challenge is to create a card that features fruit. I made this card with the gorgeous stamp I got years ago from Chapel Road Artstamps. I colored the image direct to rubber with Colorbox Chalk inks in yellows, greens, oranges, and a bit of red. I hope you enjoy it and thank you for stopping by today.

OWH Midweek Throwdown – Folded Mom Card

owh-mwt-folds-mother

  • Border stamp – from Inkadinkado “Maison Frames” set
  • Sentiment stamp – from Little Yellow Bicycle “Elegant” set
  • Patterned papers – Graphic 45 – “Old Curiosity Shoppe Collection: Exquisite Motif” (both sides)
  • Die cuts – made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Lacey Ovals” and “Classic Ovals”
  • Pearls – KaiserCraft
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This is a simple “flap” card that is a little bit unusual for me. The left-hand flap is short and fits under the stamped oval to hold the card closed. It is a nice way to show off the pretty Graphic 45 paper–and I made another “Mom” card for Operation Write Home (OWH). I made this card for the OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge: Fun Folds. Thanks for checking-in today.

OWH Mother’s Day – Butterfly Focal Point

owh-mothers-day-focal-point

  • Image stamp – Stampington & Co. “Ledger Butterfly”
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts “Mother’s Day Message”
  • Patterned paper – SEI “Couture: Tabaret”
  • Border punch – EK Success “Dotted Scallop”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Embossing folder – Cuttlebug “Seeing Spots”
  • Ranger Distress markers
  • Watercolor paper

This is my first Mother’s Day card of the year for Operation Write Home (OWH). I like to make lots of Mother’s Day cards for the troops to send home. I think it is especially important that they have a good supply to choose from. This week on OWH Stars and Stamps blog, we had another installment of OWH Design Bootcamp: Get to the Point: Creating a Strong Focal Point. The lesson was about creating a strong focal point on your cards. So using the information supplied in Paula’s lesson, I created this card with a strong focal point: the butterfly. Yes, another butterfly! The butterfly image is the largest element on the card; it is layered with a darker, contrasting color beneath it; and the watercolor technique used draws the eye in because of the textures and blended colors used. I applied ink directly to the rubber stamp with Ranger Distress Markers and then spritzed the inked stamp with water before stamping on the watercolor paper. Thanks for stopping by.

Operation Write Home Sketch #160 – Thinking of You

owh-sketch160

  • Image stamp – Magenta “Musical Bird Collage”
  • Sentiment stamp – Hero Arts a’Everyday Sayings”
  • Patterned papers – Heidi Grace Designs “Only Time” Collection: “Mini Floral” and London Eye”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill

This is a pretty stamp that I’ve had for a while, but not used in a while. When my husband saw it, he identified the bird as a meadowlark, which is Oregon’s state bird. So that is a little unsolicited trivia for you! I used OWH Sketch #160 for the card layout and inked the edges of the pieces to tie it altogether. Thanks for visiting today.

OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party – Chevron Challenge

OWH-PresVCMP-#1

  • Stamp – Stampendous “Flower Fields”
  • Die cuts – made with Spellbinder’s Nestabilities “Labels One”
  • Patterned papers – Basic Grey “PBJ” collection – “Hip Fab” and “Picnic Basket”
  • Bling – Queen and Company “Twinkle Goosebumps”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Embossing powder
  • Ranger Distress Ink markers

I made this card for the OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party that is in progress for the President’s Day weekend. The first challenge over at Scrappin’ Intervention, is the make a card featuring a chevron pattern. I had a number of choices in my stash, but this Basic Grey paper caught my eye. I heat embossed the image with black embossing powder and then used a waterbrush and my Distress markers to color the flowers and leaves. Thanks for visiting today.

President’s Day VCMP – Things With Wings

PresDayvcmp1-300x109

I hope you’re enjoying the Operation Write Home President’s Day Weekend Virtual Cardmaking Party (VCMP). Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create a card featuring something with wings! There are lots of possibilities there! Please make a card featuring Things with Wings and post it in the InLinkz below!

Now for my offerings:

owh-presVCMP-wings

  • Stamp – Inkadinkado “Sleepy Owl”
  • Die cuts – made with Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Fifteen”
  • Patterned paper – KaiserCraft “Hunt and Gather” paper pad
  • Baker’s Twine – Doodlebug Design Inc. – Tangerine
  • Gems – Darice – Earth tones
  • Ranger Distress Ink – Dried Marigold, Dried Sage, Scattered Straw, Walnut Stain
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and BoBunny
  • Kraft paper

This card features an owl-y thing with wings! I added color to the edges of the image and the patterned paper with Distress Inks. I kind of made this sketch up, but I’m sure it is similar to many others! The card features baker’s twine and the sparkle of some “gems” for a little visual interest and that’s it!

And another, that includes a little science experiment!

craft-stamper-labels

  • Stamps – Hero Arts “Sweet Butterflies”
  • Avery mailing label
  • Patterned paper – Basic Grey “Little Black Dress” collection
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Black embossing powder
  • Edger punch – Martha Stewart “Garden Rail”

I used a technique I learned in the January issue of Craft Stamper magazine for this card. Basically, you take a mailing label, peel off the backing, apply embossing powder on the sticky side and heat emboss. It makes an interesting, crackle background. It is a quick and easy technique that is pretty unexpected. Then I cut out the butterfly images that I stamped and colored with Ranger Distress markers. I put all the pieces together and had a card! Thanks for visiting today! Enjoy the party! This link will get you back to the VCMP’s master thread.

Candy!

And if you’d like to try for a little blog candy, please leave a comment and a random winner will be selected on Tuesday! You could win these stamps to help you create more Things with Wings!
