Dark-eyed Junco mixed-media piece

Ingredients used from my Recipe for Play:

  • Dina Wakley Media acrylic paints – Lemon, Tangerine,
  • Golden Artist Colors – Titan Buff
  • Book papers
  • Washi tape – Little B. and Tim Holtz
  • Handmade collage papers
  • Black Stabilo pencil
  • Black Fude Ball 1,5 pen
  • Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs – Bleu Turquoise and Olive Clair
  • Derwent Inktense Pencils – Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Peacock Blue, and Mauve

I created this piece while following along with a lesson in Nathalie Kalbach’s Creative Jumpstart 2018. The lesson from Day 1, led by Mystele, was to create a recipe for play and then to carry it out. She demonstrated from start to finish, her creating a mixed media piece that was a portrait of a girl. I was inspired by what she did, but my subject matter was very different as I decided to paint a junco, which we are currently seeing a lot around our house. This was a lot of fun. I think I’ll incorporate this into a journal page although it can stand on its own. In the above photo you can also see a portion of the “recipe card” I made. Thanks for visiting.

You rule!

  • Stamps – Lawn Fawn “Elphie Selfie” and “Wild for You” sets
  • Dies – Lawn Fawn “Elphie Selfie” set
  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Happy Day”
  • Cardstock – Bazzill Bling
  • Distress ink – Stormy Sky (for edging)
  • Ribbon

I created this card for a challenge a small group of cardmaking friends had recently to “put a bird on it.”  You know, when in doubt, put a bird on it. So it was fun to put this together and color the animals and their accessories with Copic markers and stack them. I’m trying to use up some of my patterned paper in my stash (not so successfully because there is a lot of it, but its all so pretty!). I liked this simple card sketch from Sketch Saturday challenge blog, and it was a perfect design for this card. Thanks for stopping by.

Missing You from the Tent

  • Stamps –
    • The Cat’s Pajamas “Under the Stars,” “Hare Today,” and “Happy Camper”
  • Copic markers
  • Cardstock – Bazzill and Paper Accents

I made a scene using stamps from several different sets from The Cat’s Pajamas, in response to their latest challenge to create a scene. I made a single layer card and colored the entire thing with Copic markers. Obviously, that’s a challenge for me! I enjoy combining stamps from a variety of sets–that makes it lots of fun. You can tell I live in Oregon. It looks like they are staying inside the tent because there is a rainstorm! Thanks for stopping by.

Fly Softly

Supplies:

  • Stamps – The Cat’s Pajamas “Feelin’ Cupidy”
  • Dies –
    • Lawn Fawn Lawn Cuts “Outside in Stitched Scalloped Square Stackables”
    • WPlus9 “Stackers Hearts”
  • Copic markers
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Red Mirror cardstock – Paper Accents

The Valentine season is approaching and who better to provide helpful advice, but the TCP bunny! I colored him with Copics, fussy cut him, then placed him on the die-cut layers with dimensional adhesive. I drew a dash-dot-dash line around the square layers and popped the sentiment on top. Thanks for stopping by.

Cards for the Troops: Squirrels and Such

Supplies:

  • Patterned papers – My Mind’s Eye “Indie Chic” 6 X 6″ paper pad
  • Dies –
    • Impression Obsession “Squirrels”
    • Simon Says Stamp “Smile Circle”
    • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Standard Circles Large”
  • Cardstock – Neenah Solar White and Kraft

I’m helping a friend put together a box of cards to send to a military unit so they can send cards home to their friends and family, similar to what we used to do for Operation Write Home. A group of us are challenging each other to use sketches, use up supplies, and so on. I created these three cards using a sketch from the Operation Write Home days. Here are a few of the cards I’ve made with this sketch so far. Thanks for stopping by.

Happiness in 2018

  • Stamp – Inky Antics “New Year Cheer”
  • Die – My Favorite Things “Pierced Rectangles”
  • Distress Oxide Inks – Ranger – Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber, and Spiced Marmalade
  • Patterned paper – Authentique “Bountiful”
  • Sequins
  • Cardstock – Bazzill
  • Embossing powder – Lawn Fawn – gold

I created this card using a variety of items I’ve accumulated, both old and new. I’m challenging myself to use (and hopefully use-up!) things in my stash. I always make a few New Year’s cards to send to people who I didn’t quite get Christmas cards mailed to in time. I created the background for this one by combining three different Distress Oxide inks. I really like the calligraphic Inky Antics stamp and embossing it in gold seemed appropriate for New Year’s. I added a few sequins for a bit more sparkle. Thanks for visiting.

Sleepy Owl’s Birthday

  • Stamps –
    • Impression Obsession “Sleepy Owl”
    • The Cat’s Pajamas “Simply Said”
  • Patterned papers –
    • BoBunny “Enchanted Garden Romance” and “Dot to Dot – Violet Dot”
    • Bazzill – “Antique Script”
  • Copic Markers
  • Embossing Powder – Ranger Ink

I’ve had this owl stamp and the patterned paper on the card base for years, so it was fun to create this card for an owl enthusiast with it. I colored the image with Copic markers, fussy-cut it, and layered it onto a couple of layers of patterned paper. I heat embossed the sentiment onto the black paper so it would stand out. A very simple card. Thanks for stopping by.
